1) Fuzzy had a good time this month with activities. We went to his best friend's bowling birthday party, where he hurled the balls with great enthusiasm and very little aim. We also went up to Tahoe for some skiing, and put Fuzzy into his first pair of skis for a lesson. Kid seemed pretty thrilled.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2s5eJwAdt8tVyYlosfa2OzqQbyrRNFl2chfCHM1QXv4ZRhFZyCTLL1vde5us5yLQSvOnHSpwqN8QOh2DrR_FWbjDvy5TlUUn2N42JldPM9v3RpYpIkc9VKChu9IOSTsp_OZ8CjAXkuQk/s1600/skiing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2s5eJwAdt8tVyYlosfa2OzqQbyrRNFl2chfCHM1QXv4ZRhFZyCTLL1vde5us5yLQSvOnHSpwqN8QOh2DrR_FWbjDvy5TlUUn2N42JldPM9v3RpYpIkc9VKChu9IOSTsp_OZ8CjAXkuQk/s320/skiing.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2) Fuzzy and Sprout at the playground, on airplane and fire engine rockers, respectively. Some bigger kids got on behind Sprout. Fuzzy turned to them and said, "That's my bwother Sprout. He'll hit you in the face!" Then, with a giant smile on his face, he repeated it for emphasis. "Wight in the face. He'll hit you! Boom!" <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh3zeQLj_RWrM5cv3UjvC88M_5PmbWBlatmrH8q83Y63O4houoyFLDTg8-GdWGV3nCv6W-QbjulYGXZdCL4C-Dpw-9LrRQ8TUXfIDdJIOUFKRrMZQ-NOWkFDWymMpHCXY-BZRdHLP011U/s1600/rocker.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh3zeQLj_RWrM5cv3UjvC88M_5PmbWBlatmrH8q83Y63O4houoyFLDTg8-GdWGV3nCv6W-QbjulYGXZdCL4C-Dpw-9LrRQ8TUXfIDdJIOUFKRrMZQ-NOWkFDWymMpHCXY-BZRdHLP011U/s320/rocker.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
Meanwhile, Sprout was angelically rocking and not hitting anybody, but I had to admit, it was a fair warning.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
3) On the other hand, on a different day, I overheard the following exchange between Fuzz and a six-year old girl in the sandbox, who had made some sort of remark to Sprout. "Hey! That's my baby bwother, stop bein' ruuude to him!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
4) We were at Target buying band-aids, and I got Fuzzy a box of Star Wars ones (Sprout got Paw Patrol). They way they clutched those little boxes, it was like I'd gotten them the very best presents ever. Over and over down the aisles, I heard some variation of the following refrain: "Hout band-aid! Paw Patol!" and "Mama, mama, I want to show my Star Wars band-aids to Daddy!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXeZ55rSrLtXxta4hbeeNAIyhZJvpEJZqgKTa5Htzgx8Qq0cha7hzVFK-Q-ueNpeP1_5H0Q-4LRnowAxrxDpHmZ__QiB1ZnD0Ngb2aVVkqLqAh8YSdEs5Kfpd8aKIWhC5e58qL2jW59as/s1600/holes.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXeZ55rSrLtXxta4hbeeNAIyhZJvpEJZqgKTa5Htzgx8Qq0cha7hzVFK-Q-ueNpeP1_5H0Q-4LRnowAxrxDpHmZ__QiB1ZnD0Ngb2aVVkqLqAh8YSdEs5Kfpd8aKIWhC5e58qL2jW59as/s320/holes.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
5) Finally, two months to the day after we got back from vacation, Fuzzy went to sleep without my presence in his room. Sadly this turned out to be an aberration and not a trend.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOgkkWCL1CLise9C0o5ZmzSOUaPuuPOWGzoDnsCIRBFJms0KM593a5rCU8CGHh9juAH3hWSy4OBHIWdtk9snnRxazUEZ12LrMHm3LmrdUdNNV6sR7TczADLMKLQ2exPLgIBJs8i7FOQv4/s1600/tornado.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOgkkWCL1CLise9C0o5ZmzSOUaPuuPOWGzoDnsCIRBFJms0KM593a5rCU8CGHh9juAH3hWSy4OBHIWdtk9snnRxazUEZ12LrMHm3LmrdUdNNV6sR7TczADLMKLQ2exPLgIBJs8i7FOQv4/s320/tornado.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
6) Fuzzy is just now understanding that toddler cartoons are asking for his participation. Before when the characters turns to the screen and asked a question or suggested a particular movement, he would just stare at them blankly. Now he gets super involved, waving his arms around and shouting the correct answer loudly.<br />
<br />Peachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04758650770902334842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6433014852622963938.post-8944483197746890992016-02-14T01:02:00.000-05:002016-09-15T18:42:05.928-04:0022 Months1) Sprout is putting two words together all the time, and 3-5 occasionally, although generally speaking, these are still not descriptions, but rather orders to his troops, like so: "No Baba, no like dat!"<br />
<br />
Or on another occasion, demanding seconds on soup: "Wan hoop. Many hoop!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8bC2_OmXhhg88oZ_iARrFvqPlAag6nc_J8KFLTltbxiijahZwMOPKlHfC0I-lNODhcfnP5TXXKN1OgZVBiJ8kQ6CY8m_uhyGLlC0hXcIMtpFJ_CK023uf4hlfkJelWhWPOrkmd7oivQg/s1600/hat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8bC2_OmXhhg88oZ_iARrFvqPlAag6nc_J8KFLTltbxiijahZwMOPKlHfC0I-lNODhcfnP5TXXKN1OgZVBiJ8kQ6CY8m_uhyGLlC0hXcIMtpFJ_CK023uf4hlfkJelWhWPOrkmd7oivQg/s320/hat.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
2) Also, when he couldn't get a toy to work, I witnessed the following: "Dammit!" Vigorous banging of the toy on the ground. "'Tupid!"<br />
<br />
3) We went up to Tahoe for a weekend, and Sprouty got rather annoyed by the end of the drive. When we tried to cheer him up by talking up snow, he sat in his car seat and muttered, "No like it 'no." Over and over and over. Then we got there, he played in the snow, and after we came in he had changed his mind. "Like it 'no!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyn1KXFu3Dq4Cw0NwIjZR0yCWQh5Lpphf8ttrswY0gZDU-stLrNHjcqhqFCqwbkEljO0kHRGyR08zequ2qYaTN4dzsPYvWtw2MMsuEVodfV44t_hZ8WnO3XD8Vv_gg7DXVjvPX0xR-i2Y/s1600/Snow.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyn1KXFu3Dq4Cw0NwIjZR0yCWQh5Lpphf8ttrswY0gZDU-stLrNHjcqhqFCqwbkEljO0kHRGyR08zequ2qYaTN4dzsPYvWtw2MMsuEVodfV44t_hZ8WnO3XD8Vv_gg7DXVjvPX0xR-i2Y/s320/Snow.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4) Sprout's pronunciation of fish is one of my favorites: fish = hiss. "Mmmm, hiss!"<br />
<br />
5) The kid managed to bang my mom in the head with his giant noggin. I told him, "No hitting anybody." Later that night, he was in the bathtub and my mom came into the room. Sprout promptly proved that his command of cause and effect was a little bit...off. "NO BABA, no hittin' anybody!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2FZKyUC2h26fCXNSVjSYl3QBshhKA-HIhDaWJu00MfRukz-ZGUcdWVFVaw7L879gLAyKWSSDIvdMyO-_3TU1OkcQLNn6HaAqOsvfJAIImyrJUXcuKZm_LL8XnukW8feo91OMiJdIJeb0/s1600/playground.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2FZKyUC2h26fCXNSVjSYl3QBshhKA-HIhDaWJu00MfRukz-ZGUcdWVFVaw7L879gLAyKWSSDIvdMyO-_3TU1OkcQLNn6HaAqOsvfJAIImyrJUXcuKZm_LL8XnukW8feo91OMiJdIJeb0/s320/playground.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
6) Fuzzy was invited to a bowling birthday party for one of his preschool friends, and Sprout tagged along. He was super into it, and carried the heavy ball around unassisted. This is fairly impressive, considering the 6 pound ball is a quarter of Sprout's body weight. All the other parents were very impressed, and kept telling I had a bowling prodigy. I am dubious - a lifting heavy objects prodigy, maybe.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib5wkCzNYOpbVLVypPjwHrwgH7o2L7Udcw20jKdP1tuL18ZfrqIODp-NVrTXLUBQqEwJ1b5L9r4Y_N1GUy_5gAP9sfx8i94CSdjjhSTYmZvv-RcMsT8XnFdVkf0pmh8MK0WDrT11iZ6lQ/s1600/bowling+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib5wkCzNYOpbVLVypPjwHrwgH7o2L7Udcw20jKdP1tuL18ZfrqIODp-NVrTXLUBQqEwJ1b5L9r4Y_N1GUy_5gAP9sfx8i94CSdjjhSTYmZvv-RcMsT8XnFdVkf0pmh8MK0WDrT11iZ6lQ/s320/bowling+collage.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
7) For some reason, Sprout's way of talking always carries the hint of a threat. For example, the boys were playing superheroes and requesting that I yell for their help. I did, and had them locate various 'lost' items - my phone, chapstick, etc. Each time, they would ceremoniously hand me the item, and Fuzzy would say, "Okay Mama, if you need help, yell for us!" <br />
<br />
Then Sprout would come up, poke me in the leg with his finger and hiss, "Yelllll fo' ussssssss!"<br />
<br />
Whereas Fuzzy's was clearly an offer of help, Sprouts hoarse hissing felt like a mafia Don explaining to a business owner exactly how things work.<br />
<br />
8) First time on big boy swing!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNTB1lQo-63NlFWMpKAujky0UBEwyd0Uqwqg65k9_3BluH47UBRUZtwLNhqeY6W85jQjzqCeM0PXo_XPDqi8JnOzp8P4qCsCmdWXwsGDq44AnKZ04sCimjreiz1XGGGUG_5ueLyooYarY/s1600/big+boy+swing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNTB1lQo-63NlFWMpKAujky0UBEwyd0Uqwqg65k9_3BluH47UBRUZtwLNhqeY6W85jQjzqCeM0PXo_XPDqi8JnOzp8P4qCsCmdWXwsGDq44AnKZ04sCimjreiz1XGGGUG_5ueLyooYarY/s320/big+boy+swing.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Peachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04758650770902334842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6433014852622963938.post-86359058523980084802016-01-23T00:36:00.000-05:002016-06-04T00:49:50.511-04:003 Years 8 Months1) Fuzzy is still in teenager mode this month, and won't tell Daddy or Baba that he loves them, instead clinging to me with fierce attachment. However, when said important personages are out of the house, he makes them presents. We know this is love because he started doing it after watching an episode of Daniel Tiger devoted to the theme that "making something is another way to say 'I love you!'"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOGYJxYay9jKCyesvH4IaMRuBzdYh_ukKOYZ37nUHi-JkZvR6OpbhJZHH6Wbn12ny2H4hlseghI0EC53gjsslYo2kigfZ550PcJMEeKK9Nu1RqbYX3tToieXQ5ZfqfCN7ZGUhmnQa89MQ/s1600/driving.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOGYJxYay9jKCyesvH4IaMRuBzdYh_ukKOYZ37nUHi-JkZvR6OpbhJZHH6Wbn12ny2H4hlseghI0EC53gjsslYo2kigfZ550PcJMEeKK9Nu1RqbYX3tToieXQ5ZfqfCN7ZGUhmnQa89MQ/s320/driving.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2) Fuzz has also taken to saying 'not funny' when he is annoyed with a parental request or command. When we agree that it is, in fact, not funny, and we need him to go to bed/brush his teeth/sit down and eat, he says, "Stop coppppying me!" in a really aggrieved tone of voice.<br />
<br />
3) When he gets even more annoyed, he busts out with, "I'm not your friend!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMQgGaqvZbL25b1WDsUvfMnSeNLiqkxvqZ4nnjfoKCzHw7u5iEBeoF6BijLcGeI8ZRyAp__0gQE_2bsR_A-xfMejcx4EZBHXcXiT-Gle_wHQEqTxzm5xTIx6DH9jBbSQmkhMQYFha65bw/s1600/airplane.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMQgGaqvZbL25b1WDsUvfMnSeNLiqkxvqZ4nnjfoKCzHw7u5iEBeoF6BijLcGeI8ZRyAp__0gQE_2bsR_A-xfMejcx4EZBHXcXiT-Gle_wHQEqTxzm5xTIx6DH9jBbSQmkhMQYFha65bw/s320/airplane.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4) To complete his lexicon of hateful teenage behaviors, the kid has also taken to yelling, "I hate that!" to a variety of things he loves - mushrooms, rice, etc. I'm telling you, the Peachy household these days is a real land of sunshine and roses.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiePiYR9SwTEBd2fOyryO_RyUcENZdl5s3X8xPl2NLB7BHgIjJdKwCR0ZrHORiz8da_FWe6OTEv2Jt84g0lT5PQvVXDxsDcARu2TCiWAY6oZJJwVBGONhNriPYbJRKHKza5NEr8WaJN84/s1600/bath+bubbles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiePiYR9SwTEBd2fOyryO_RyUcENZdl5s3X8xPl2NLB7BHgIjJdKwCR0ZrHORiz8da_FWe6OTEv2Jt84g0lT5PQvVXDxsDcARu2TCiWAY6oZJJwVBGONhNriPYbJRKHKza5NEr8WaJN84/s320/bath+bubbles.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
5) However, occasionally we do get gems like this:<br />
The Pit: "What job do you want when you grow up?"<br />
"I want to drive a combine harvester!"<br />
"Oh, you want to be a farmer? What are you going to grow?"<br />
"Corn!"<br />
"What should Sprout be when he grows up?"<br />
Fuzz, with intensity, "A ninja turtle!"<br />
<br />
6) We went to visit Dina and Noam overnight, so that The Pit and I could go out to dinner to celebrate his birthday. Noam put Fuzzy in same bed as Sprout that night, and Fuzzy proceeded to hold Sprout's hand and shush him when he cried. When I went in there in the morning, they were hugging and kissing each other.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0q75OjYs4ZknBwmXYgS-4086gQ4C7g3t6vbASUXPqlM0oSBFJJndfrSh3No5_MKbAOeMukhyzrzGByxjo5jRDhzYoBCtTZP0VEvxJLnSQQKouzdpNGuqNXEcXvS3W_7rTPLPLOCTviLU/s1600/car+with+dot+baby.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0q75OjYs4ZknBwmXYgS-4086gQ4C7g3t6vbASUXPqlM0oSBFJJndfrSh3No5_MKbAOeMukhyzrzGByxjo5jRDhzYoBCtTZP0VEvxJLnSQQKouzdpNGuqNXEcXvS3W_7rTPLPLOCTviLU/s320/car+with+dot+baby.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
7) Sadly, the above-referenced night was the only time since The Pit and I returned from a 10-day Caribbean vacation sans children (in December) that Fuzzy has fallen asleep without my physical presence in his room. Prior to the trip, he used to demand three "Twinkle Twinkle" songs, followed by a goodnight story, and would then happily roll over and let me leave his room. Those halcyon days are gone - ever since our return, should I try to ease myself out, there is a flood of hysterical tears, and an insistence that I have to hold his hand until he falls asleep.Peachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04758650770902334842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6433014852622963938.post-15799689653431657762016-01-16T00:59:00.000-05:002016-02-10T01:06:52.478-05:0021 Months1) So many many new words this month, I've lost count. My favorite may be the way he's adopeted Fuzzy's pronunciation of animal - "aminal." <br />

2) Fuzzy got a remote-controlled car for Christmas. Sprout and his similarly-aged cousin were both scared of it, but their reactions were very different. Sprout's cousin jumped back, and ran to his mom in tears. Sprout also jumped back, but instead of running to me, he then ran toward the car, grabbed it in both hands, and proceeded to smash it as hard as he could against the floor...over and over and over. Toughest baby on the block, indeed.<br />
<br />
3) Sprout is putting words together into small sentences, but less to describe things, and more to give orders. "No sweep dat woom!" or, "Mama eat dat!"<br />
<br />
My favorite Sprout command was a very short sentence directed at one of his toys. "Eat!" {shoves robot feet into an apple}.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJnR9_n-Rkh9LdvJUDZwT0PgkxRaUMOzqdCpDN_gR7E3LxrudUOORO71X-1Bog35TDFGNj6tU5pYO3J9ynkA_r5ND_9tvo9W5SsTyo9FMUtN69ixs0MNwqaxe0D2Y78iPaxQTLSMlrKpg/s1600/decorating+tree.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJnR9_n-Rkh9LdvJUDZwT0PgkxRaUMOzqdCpDN_gR7E3LxrudUOORO71X-1Bog35TDFGNj6tU5pYO3J9ynkA_r5ND_9tvo9W5SsTyo9FMUtN69ixs0MNwqaxe0D2Y78iPaxQTLSMlrKpg/s320/decorating+tree.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
4) My sister and brother-in-law got the boys a bouncy house for New Year's, which we keep in our garage. Sprout is obsessed with the thing, and it is his new favorite activity. He's picked up the language very well: he points his finger in the general direction of the garage and commands, "Bouncy hoss!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjga9nm6FBPzrPpuDnJi58tOPdnpA-vWgo058zh10kSRNYBRzTA_79nwZSRWsRv2-xdW-dRy9U-aqbxTqXaqHQ2z62E2ki0w0k74DebsfonyTf7vqVTQscwbV5xW_zCwArJc3KeAoGK_c4/s1600/bounce+hoss.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjga9nm6FBPzrPpuDnJi58tOPdnpA-vWgo058zh10kSRNYBRzTA_79nwZSRWsRv2-xdW-dRy9U-aqbxTqXaqHQ2z62E2ki0w0k74DebsfonyTf7vqVTQscwbV5xW_zCwArJc3KeAoGK_c4/s320/bounce+hoss.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
5) Sprout has started to call himself by his actual name, although his inability to pronounce Ss hampers the situation somewhat. He replaces the problematic sound with an H, so for purposes of this blog, he is now Hout. <br />
<br />
He also sometimes says, "me!" - principally when I ask, "Who made this mess??' <br />
Then he glances up at me, grins slyly, and says, "Bandeet!" Which is Russian for 'bandit', which is exactly what he is.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihCpsYZ2o7r-mMQ3SJLxHUXlgw0jCqOhOJynXEGTdZT0_gTWkHFmkdv4kJISyrIgTJAyLfhqphoOJ6BAFtr8ARdmm4wzy3-YCN59LwmxevHx_-vE6n_1b1wXMRTiIQ6n5PFk4JXYF-pu8/s1600/pleased.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihCpsYZ2o7r-mMQ3SJLxHUXlgw0jCqOhOJynXEGTdZT0_gTWkHFmkdv4kJISyrIgTJAyLfhqphoOJ6BAFtr8ARdmm4wzy3-YCN59LwmxevHx_-vE6n_1b1wXMRTiIQ6n5PFk4JXYF-pu8/s320/pleased.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
In other naming news, Hout now refers to his brother by his almost correct name, omitting only the R sound. No longer is Fuzzy referred to as "Mine!"<br />
<br />
6) I present the first real conversation we ever had. To set the scene, Sprout is picking his nose in the middle of the night while I change his diaper:<br />
"Boooooger. Bick boooooger!"<br />
"You have a big booger stuck in your nose?"<br />
"Yeah."<br />
"Did you get it?"<br />
"Yeah. Eat dat."<br />
"No, don't eat the booger, that's gross."<br />
Indignantly, "<i>Hout</i> booger!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6OL_D7m4YEZGS3_F_WKUZDg88L8I4ohfz7A6ucYUQsPMcGljcMsyieVvRgZOQCESs2LQp19qx2U5YCH_GaOI8duqdNHKKTlwemGygjTpuGHI-XTOCfeSKvA6ogwAYO5KFp7yXyEJJ-s8/s1600/IMG_4230.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6OL_D7m4YEZGS3_F_WKUZDg88L8I4ohfz7A6ucYUQsPMcGljcMsyieVvRgZOQCESs2LQp19qx2U5YCH_GaOI8duqdNHKKTlwemGygjTpuGHI-XTOCfeSKvA6ogwAYO5KFp7yXyEJJ-s8/s320/IMG_4230.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<br />
7) When a toy or something no longer works, Sprout plaintively brings it to an adult and wails, "Woooking!" By which, of course, he means, 'not wooking,' or in English, 'not working.' I have to do a lot of Sprout translation around here.<br />
<br />
8) The kid is starting to pick up an uncomfortable amount from his brother. When I'm washing his hair in the tub, he has taken to grabbing the washcloth and throwing its across the room, while firmly announcing, "Nuff!". It's clearly not enough, because at that point, I have barely even touched him. Try explaining this to Sprout though.<br />
<br />
9) On the plus side of copying big brother, Sprout is beginning to potty train himself. He now says 'poop!' and wants to go to the potty...although most of the time it's not poop. He's a clever one though, saying 'pee' wouldn't generate quite the frantic amount of activity as when he declares 'poop!'.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCD1kesC46bbQ3pyxsQ21S2fsIIeQ_UFaRRTvVsnw0EM-AEJGf3aY4WnDmVqp1tNeOiNNjJMMxzf1WSP9igUwDdlzwdTJNi7i8PWaPVPKvDxEkcRgqCKdZO52Or1K4Q99iogdTkgkTN4k/s1600/potty.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCD1kesC46bbQ3pyxsQ21S2fsIIeQ_UFaRRTvVsnw0EM-AEJGf3aY4WnDmVqp1tNeOiNNjJMMxzf1WSP9igUwDdlzwdTJNi7i8PWaPVPKvDxEkcRgqCKdZO52Or1K4Q99iogdTkgkTN4k/s320/potty.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
10) In a really adorable development, Sprout has taken to screaming "YEAH!!" when we suggest he do something (and he wants to do it). His level of enthusiasm for throwing a paper towel in the trash or heading to the grocery store is very impressive. <br />
<br />
The kid also goes "um um um" when he doesn't know the answer to a question. This is both charming and singularly ineffective at getting grown-ups to leave him alone.Peachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04758650770902334842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6433014852622963938.post-43336050475481407582015-12-26T16:48:00.000-05:002016-01-31T17:10:36.082-05:003 Years 7 Months1) Last month I posted a bunch of pictures of Fuzzy on a camping trip with his dad, uncle Noam, and some big cousins. The kid had a great time, but unfortunately, came back from that trip talking like a teenager. "Stupid Mama, I don't want to put my socks on. God!" And in another gem, as I tried to wash his hair in the tub: "Stop botherin' me! I'm playing. God!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR3zZTCoc8Yda3U9vrfray3WOAsnh3EAUptoirFAYjilBHdtIXxCtxLTCx7C8cq7jIZfP328JtlHmqyefcV8nCJqD8DW-nyKgYQvXsEcSPMZiMJeXzOYrQr4KygCoNHtsoZE6FZc8V9Lo/s1600/trouble.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR3zZTCoc8Yda3U9vrfray3WOAsnh3EAUptoirFAYjilBHdtIXxCtxLTCx7C8cq7jIZfP328JtlHmqyefcV8nCJqD8DW-nyKgYQvXsEcSPMZiMJeXzOYrQr4KygCoNHtsoZE6FZc8V9Lo/s320/trouble.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
2) This entry really involves both kids - trying to get them out of the house is like an endless sock/shoe olympics, and pretty much the most frustrating thing in the world. For example, here was a recent scene:<br />
<br />
I chase both kids around the living room until I catch Sprout. I stuff him into his socks, and then he wiggles loose. I catch Fuzzy and put his socks on, turn around to grab his shoes, and discover that Sprout has pulled his socks off. Fuzzy takes advantage of my moment of dismay and pulls off his socks. <br />
<br />
We begin again. This time I manage to put Sprout in both socks and shoes first, in the hopes that he will remain ready while I deal with Fuzzy. One half of my work done, I begin the socks/shoes routines with my big kid, and turn around to find Sprout barefoot again. I finish Fuzzy, catch Sprout again, begin tugging socks on a wiggly bundle of energy, glance up, and see Fuzzy taking his shoes off. I lose it, howling to god knows who. <br />
<br />
The kids settle down, I finally get their socks and shoes on, and we get in the car. Five minutes later, I glance in the rearview mirror when I hear an ominous giggling. Both little monsters have pulled their socks and shoes off.<br />
<br />
3) For a couple of days, Fuzzy complained of his butt hurting. He did have a bit of constipation, but eventually would poop, and the pain would go away until the next day. On the third day or so of him complaining, I asked him if he had eaten anything that wasn't food. <br />
<br />
"Yes."<br />
"What? You did? What did you eat?"<br />
"One of my mans."<br />
"One of your toy men? But they're all really big, you couldn't eat one of them."<br />
"No, it was a policeman. He had glasses and hat, so that made him a policeman."<br />
<br />
This took me aback, because we did indeed, several months ago, have a Lego man with glasses and hat, who in a preschooler's imagination, could easily be a policeman. Of course, he hadn't been seen for months, but maybe Fuzzy had in fact found and then eaten him. I attempted several times to ascertain if what Fuzzy was telling me was just pretend, or if it had happened in real life. The kid was adamant that he really ate "a mans."<br />
<br />
I called the doctor, and reported the conversation and the previous symptoms. She said that it didn't sound like an intestinal blockage, but we should probably bring him in to be sure. One x-ray later, we were certain there was no policeman anywhere inside Fuzzy. However, the kid stubbornly stuck to his story. "No, he's in there, you just can't see him because it's dark!" And then the next day, "Mama, the policeman somehow turned into poop!"<br />
<br />
4) We discovered that preschool apparently teaches the kids patriotic songs, when out of nowhere, Fuzzy burst forth with a version of "You're a Grand Old Flag," complete with hand gestures. There's really no way to do it justice except to link you the video:<br />

<br />
2) My mom brought the kids a large twirling top, and at first Sprout was afraid of it. He hid behind Fuzzy and peaked out at the toy. Eventually he decided that discretion was the better part of valor, and gave his brother a large shove to move Fuzz closer to the toy and evaluate its deadliness.<br />
<br />
3) One day we gave some coins to the Salvation Army lady in front of the grocery store, and now every time we go by, Sprout gets very excited. "Lady! Money! Lady! Monkey hat!" That last reference is to the lady's unusual headgear, which, sadly, is not in fact a monkey, but is instead a more seasonally-appropriate penguin. Sprout is very insistent though, so we just roll with it.<br />
<br />
4) Before Halloween, we went to a pumpkin patch with the kids, and in early December, we drove by that same street. Sprout excitedly pointed at the lot, which now holds a Christmas tree sales place, and started yelling, "Pumpa, pumpa!" <br />
<br />
I was very impressed. It's been over a month since we've been to that place, it's down a street we don't otherwise drive on, we were coming from a different direction, and the lot itself is now covered with Christmas trees instead of pumpkins. But the kid remembered immediately. <br />
<br />
5) Sprout really enjoys being the buffest baby on the block. Whenever he lifts anything, he puffs out his chest, pants, and and grunts, "Haaavy!" He's clearly extremely proud of himself.Peachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04758650770902334842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6433014852622963938.post-74064218630065281212015-11-28T00:44:00.000-05:002016-01-31T00:50:13.850-05:003 Years 6 Months1) At the playground on the day of Halloween, Fuzzy was super excited about eating candy later that night. The community center nearby then had some sort of daytime event, the result of which was a bunch of teenagers wandering around littering candy wrappers. I found Fuzzy with a wrapper in his mouth, which he had clearly picked up off the ground. "Fuzzy, don't eat that, that's gross!" <br />
<br />
The child looked wounded. "It's not poop!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKXk2IjF-I72CAHkXbKacc_kNj1MDILtZXBxOUpBantboRzDxIh2W2LJDTi_hD1nIUIfZxQKCc8aYmShcaI2nIQrZpGMZwF4rdLRVBtHiV4QRdzeoiPCv_j3pcFUfiIhZn9u-GPIf5qao/s1600/ninja+turtle.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKXk2IjF-I72CAHkXbKacc_kNj1MDILtZXBxOUpBantboRzDxIh2W2LJDTi_hD1nIUIfZxQKCc8aYmShcaI2nIQrZpGMZwF4rdLRVBtHiV4QRdzeoiPCv_j3pcFUfiIhZn9u-GPIf5qao/s320/ninja+turtle.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
2) After going trick or treating, I let Fuzz have several pieces of candy. After I forbade any more, he snuck one in, and I took it away from him. The Pit was away on a business trip, and Fuzzy requested that I call him, because Fuzzy wanted to tell him something.<br />
<br />
"What do you want to tell Daddy?" I asked. <br />
<br />
"That I didn't get any lollipops, and that I was eating that candy, and you took it away and then I cried. But it's okay, when Daddy comes back, he will put on his magic pants, and he will give me a lollipop from his pocket." <br />
<br />
This exchange might be clearer if you knew that a couple of days before he left, The Pit convinced Fuzz that one of his pockets gives out lollipops to good boys.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhraGeOUZvJDtf1H09feqprRVQnjJuOS_WPAAPZyHGB94hcfuWRUGCJ5qNWM25KnnxRgrCNqWO2Pw3bVb0E2FGasBupowHvdjTEoDNaSoOMilcj-Urqh_jg65UNBkkDnb0vJqcxb_aASXw/s1600/with+candy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhraGeOUZvJDtf1H09feqprRVQnjJuOS_WPAAPZyHGB94hcfuWRUGCJ5qNWM25KnnxRgrCNqWO2Pw3bVb0E2FGasBupowHvdjTEoDNaSoOMilcj-Urqh_jg65UNBkkDnb0vJqcxb_aASXw/s320/with+candy.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
3) Fuzzy is still unclear on the concept of jokes. A recent example went like so:<br />
Fuzzy: "How does the bucket get filled up with water?" <br />
Me: "How?" <br />
Fuzzy: "By getting water!"<br />
<br />
Also:<br />
Me: "Knock knock."<br />
Fuzzy: Silence.<br />
Me: "You have to say 'who's there?'"<br />
Fuzzy: "MAMA!" Laughs hysterically.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6WU2lE3VWEz8qGHoLTwBydK7bzbHgoNnB9_I89bFIKfHPUmJ4E2SXdfPOqmFra0fawMWcPiZwAnh0ddrPaC9F52Jn7UmkYgQo3YeyXtKxMPxFRt7K3KQyGL_mbNrtt2PjIP3pPKhUPoc/s1600/burger.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6WU2lE3VWEz8qGHoLTwBydK7bzbHgoNnB9_I89bFIKfHPUmJ4E2SXdfPOqmFra0fawMWcPiZwAnh0ddrPaC9F52Jn7UmkYgQo3YeyXtKxMPxFRt7K3KQyGL_mbNrtt2PjIP3pPKhUPoc/s320/burger.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
4) Alas, my child has begun to demonstrate anti-girl sentiments. He was jumping on an extra mattress we put on his floor. "Mama, this exercise is for booys, not gurls!" When I pointed out that girls are equally capable: "But MAMA, this would take a lot of practice and skills for gurls!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3rIKu5AvQseMEGp2P6X6_DEynCq6flmu27d5gKggsz7Z2-w-1J-28Lr3g4czMJS7pIx2VsuNGreYS6RmguzpSeHCSeWnvrVXC5xoGphH9mUVKdEr_qlrdkmKeGYrn6Zu_4PlIknMSOHE/s1600/beer.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3rIKu5AvQseMEGp2P6X6_DEynCq6flmu27d5gKggsz7Z2-w-1J-28Lr3g4czMJS7pIx2VsuNGreYS6RmguzpSeHCSeWnvrVXC5xoGphH9mUVKdEr_qlrdkmKeGYrn6Zu_4PlIknMSOHE/s320/beer.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
5) A few days ago, when I accompanied Fuzzy to the bathroom, he announced that he wanted "not company" on the potty. "Oh, you want privacy?" I asked. Fuzzy confirmed, so I went downstairs and told him to call me when he was done.<br />
<br />
I heard him yelling several minutes later and went upstairs, only to be informed that, "I still want not company, Mama!" <br />
<br />
"You called me up here to tell me that you don't want me here?"<br />
<br />
"Yes, close the door."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7BHwKpNXQ4S_lWKD675R6gtjwWBZqxkoHcr1JWaeHemxVjlg-Ri-XKuvlx95svh6sricH1Se_SS8bIcOq2EXhejCoP6358qffqGjag0yHYjBOp6WV2hOg67yoWc-HqDVZkIobV0EW78g/s1600/smores.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7BHwKpNXQ4S_lWKD675R6gtjwWBZqxkoHcr1JWaeHemxVjlg-Ri-XKuvlx95svh6sricH1Se_SS8bIcOq2EXhejCoP6358qffqGjag0yHYjBOp6WV2hOg67yoWc-HqDVZkIobV0EW78g/s320/smores.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
6) In a note home from Fuzzy's preschool, I read that that they were doing thankful journals for Thanksgiving. I asked Fuzzy what he was thankful for. "Nothing!" <br />
<br />
This is his standard answer when I ask about anything school-related, so I was not too wounded. But I proceeded to tell him I was thankful for him and Sprout and Daddy, and then left the topic alone. Out of nowhere several hours later, while Fuzzy was helping me sort laundry, the kid came to a decision. "Mama, I know what I'm thankful for."<br />
<br />
"Oh, what?" <br />
<br />
"You and Daddy and Sprout." Awwww, just a long thinker, and not a sociopath after all!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBM_Fg-mlvFSk1VcB3Ic0ZMzsN9Yu6gh6uS2XkkVpcS4ibEDuHxSn6VMy3rPoag-9fmSjqzG9vKp35lCq8UcVryVYeD8pePFBVN19RFtXdWYTdQiUl9MbYNLU46NAqTT-QJ0OZAf56im8/s1600/hugging+sammy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBM_Fg-mlvFSk1VcB3Ic0ZMzsN9Yu6gh6uS2XkkVpcS4ibEDuHxSn6VMy3rPoag-9fmSjqzG9vKp35lCq8UcVryVYeD8pePFBVN19RFtXdWYTdQiUl9MbYNLU46NAqTT-QJ0OZAf56im8/s320/hugging+sammy.jpg" width="212" /></a></div>
<br />
5) Sometimes the kids play well together, and sometimes we get scenes like this:<br />
Fuzzy: "Sprout, hurry, we have to spring into action! There's monsters!"<br />
Sprout: Unimpressed, continues to play with his toy.<br />
Fuzzy: "No, Sprout! Spring into action!" Starts pulling on the baby's arm.<takes away="" s="" sam="" toy=""></takes><br />
Sprout: Wails and then hits Fuzzy.<br />
<br />
6) I usually give the kids some kind of berries or fruit while they are in the tub. One day, Fuzzy invented a new game, wherein he decided to stuff all his blueberries in the bathtub spout. <br />
<br />
"Fuzzy, stop that!"<br />
<br />
"But Mama, it's available for blueberries!"<br />
<br />
Hard to argue with logic like that, especially when he uses his big vocabulary words. We were all very excited when the blueberries came back out after I turned on the water. Sprout continued to try to stuff various other things in the spout for weeks and weeks after.<br />
<br />

et = eat<br />
eck = egg<br />
Haha = Sasha (my dad, his grandpa)<br />
diwi = kiwi<br />
hap = help<br />
yick/dick = stick<br />
dump = jump<br />
hock = sock<br />
dowel = towel<br />
ningo = flamingo<br />
beak = big<br />
howie = heavy<br />

<br />
2) Sprout wanted to be turned upside down, but didn't know how to say that. He kept muttering "don" for down as he climbed up me. Then I said, "But you're going up!" and he threw his head backward and said "don" until Mama figured it out. I felt a little slow on the uptake.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir8fb4e64iIdtiLFD5mKsRSUG4VAP3bV-pdMeYkX44LsgvD76r2U7mLgvQnBltgzDWHzPhikQrr5AY_unVr37lmDKyM-iYt0gqyCU6LlJ4GuXOmtx63nzGH5oBs1XO8-5mFD3rrOjspkQ/s1600/mouth.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir8fb4e64iIdtiLFD5mKsRSUG4VAP3bV-pdMeYkX44LsgvD76r2U7mLgvQnBltgzDWHzPhikQrr5AY_unVr37lmDKyM-iYt0gqyCU6LlJ4GuXOmtx63nzGH5oBs1XO8-5mFD3rrOjspkQ/s320/mouth.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
3) We tried sleep training for the second time in Sprout's life this month. The first time was around 11 months, resulted in two solid hours of crying, and was abandoned after one attempt. This go-around was infinitely more painful, but sadly no more successful. <br />
<br />
The first night the kid puked after 15 minutes, and finally succumbed about 1 hour and 45 minutes after we left his room (with all the puke clean up, this probably meant about 45 minutes of crying). <br />
<br />
On the second night there were 15 minutes of crying, a minor throw up, and then 30 more minutes of crying before he fell asleep - followed by another 40-minute struggle in the middle of the night (though thankfully no throw-up, just what The Pit called a 'resistance poop').<br />
<br />
The third night was slightly better, with only 30 minutes of crying in the evening, and only 5 minutes in the middle of the night . No puke, and we breathed a sigh of relief that the worst was behind us. Silly parents.<br />
<br />
The fourth night was a disaster - puke even before we left his room in the evening, then an hour and 15 minutes of crying, followed by another hour and twenty minutes of crying in the middle of the night. <br />
<br />
On the fifth day, Sprout puked twice in middle of day, and we realized we were terrible people and the baby had been coming down with a stomach bug the entire time. Sleep training was terminated, and we have yet to resume.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJUaYU25kNMht4x0ZSaqHwjHcRas3M8lM6bZekFZXMiJGhRqRanp_T896WfoXVDiO0HHhzSwM-UZwXtBxr_OuRial2S1kzLcKYvd4Vfz5ShPwOTqTHpw6g8vum8bcOEDf7BiE_Vkb92DM/s1600/turtle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJUaYU25kNMht4x0ZSaqHwjHcRas3M8lM6bZekFZXMiJGhRqRanp_T896WfoXVDiO0HHhzSwM-UZwXtBxr_OuRial2S1kzLcKYvd4Vfz5ShPwOTqTHpw6g8vum8bcOEDf7BiE_Vkb92DM/s320/turtle.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
3) Sprout recently developed a fear of slides - he sits on top, says "boom," points down, and then stands up and climbs back down the stairs. However, he also does not want other children to either approach him or go down his slide. He will stand at the top and put his hand up in a 'stop' gesture if anybody else comes up. If the kid keeps approaching, Sprout will firmly push him/her away.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj52stxcrLIZgqhZEV2D2Q2EvSkoBUDWBVWoXQEliX-BWFeKzIcwJO9-VCwA3SmoSvNGTKW5QMlF3BJhoLLwN_eZ5IM0tEeKR2QDUkFHcPbXgipEhwOtMZTFBFeKltiLAWZLRHemBqy9s4/s1600/stick.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj52stxcrLIZgqhZEV2D2Q2EvSkoBUDWBVWoXQEliX-BWFeKzIcwJO9-VCwA3SmoSvNGTKW5QMlF3BJhoLLwN_eZ5IM0tEeKR2QDUkFHcPbXgipEhwOtMZTFBFeKltiLAWZLRHemBqy9s4/s320/stick.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
4) Sprout started calling his Elmo doll by its rightful name this month, and also began feeding Elmo his water. This is quite sweet, especially on the day he was feeling sick and miserable.<br />
<br />
5) The kid is interested in counting, but in a very particular way. He wants us to count things in books. He will grab my finger, poke it at the picture, and say, "One!" If I don't follow up with "two," "three," and so on, he will insistently keep poking my finger at the book and repeating "One!" All attempts to get him to count by himself have been firmly rebuffed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0qZblyd7M3fnaHxN6MxXp4HuGWKRt4pruytNwbHCnYYwYLNxd4TyPGBRCPsjJVbvTRde6fpqt7DONhRHGYg0z1CG5C83XSHDzfBeqwoxAguvqhUhZwAIrFOQqAgWNQTRv4N5gJXTCGYk/s1600/balls+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0qZblyd7M3fnaHxN6MxXp4HuGWKRt4pruytNwbHCnYYwYLNxd4TyPGBRCPsjJVbvTRde6fpqt7DONhRHGYg0z1CG5C83XSHDzfBeqwoxAguvqhUhZwAIrFOQqAgWNQTRv4N5gJXTCGYk/s320/balls+3.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
6) A recent interaction I witnessed in the kitchen. Sprout: "Wan diwi!" {grabs towel} "Hap! Hap Baba!" He not only wanted to eat the kiwi, I guess he wanted to help Baba wash it.<br />
<br />
7) Sprout has started asking "Why?" after every interaction we have with him. For example, I point out a dog in the street. Sprout: "Why?" <br />
<br />
I figured out that this isn't so much him understanding what the word "why" means, as it is the kid recognizing that if he asks "why," he will get additional details about the scene in question. For example, after he queries "why" about the dog, I will explain that dogs like to go on walks, or that dogs go to the bathroom outside, or whatever. It's actually quite clever of the little guy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

"Oh Sprout!" is a good one though. Occasionally it even lets Mama know that the little one is doing something dangerous.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj3si7nraFrcD6cnWmU5KMhDtV02t-a8SbJx5BwBdrvoI5jkRG41trXNfl3t8SlN07FWK5wRXj-pwn6k6sTyRTMjYY-sMgv-QHFT2DltfE9C96bUmmJzIsGOboLNmtTcNf9dwjMzjgogw/s1600/park+with+sam.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj3si7nraFrcD6cnWmU5KMhDtV02t-a8SbJx5BwBdrvoI5jkRG41trXNfl3t8SlN07FWK5wRXj-pwn6k6sTyRTMjYY-sMgv-QHFT2DltfE9C96bUmmJzIsGOboLNmtTcNf9dwjMzjgogw/s320/park+with+sam.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2) We've also seen some very heart-warming interactions from Fuzzy. When Sprout has hurt himself, I've witnessed Fuzzy come over, pat him on the back, and softly whisper ,"Shhh, Sprout, shhhh - it's okay." When I was gone for a business trip, The Pit also put both boys together in one bed, and Fuzzy repeated the same gentle patting and whispering when his brother was having a hard time falling asleep. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
3) "Ow ow ow!" is another recent favorite saying, especially when nothing is hurt. I'm not sure what that's all about, but I'm guessing preschool is the culprit. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBbToCyiygmVPi0qqPxPDtI5tLBxwNyWsqgdyQogXMU5XVT_Qz9UKjmBXpDrVbMG7vcDDbfKm4SxBUiGAxQcFXIoeJxITXf13R4pxUxdBNOIgw4JxYtfhdR6wzJBUmt9FgF3UCsm3o14o/s1600/pig.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBbToCyiygmVPi0qqPxPDtI5tLBxwNyWsqgdyQogXMU5XVT_Qz9UKjmBXpDrVbMG7vcDDbfKm4SxBUiGAxQcFXIoeJxITXf13R4pxUxdBNOIgw4JxYtfhdR6wzJBUmt9FgF3UCsm3o14o/s320/pig.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
4) We were going to go on a hike with my sister and brother-in-law once the kids woke up from naps. Of course, on this particular day, Fuzzy woke up super grumpy, and cried as we were getting him dressed, in the car, and as we were putting him in the hiking backpack. Somewhere about mid-hike, the kid started to feel better, and post-hike, was in great mood. On the way down the hill he asked me, "Mama, why was I so grumpy in the car?" Kid, I wish I knew.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg75kiZKZ0cubOOx9so6477MwjB9OuquROkObXY719NKSceBnISjXq3zeWwjYx7UuMJ7G2jpOghGET4INDvJ9qLZRd71qqJefabnAY1MepHw5DIDYoJnBzKsy6sTqJxzk3WHugh7KmfFM4/s1600/hiking.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg75kiZKZ0cubOOx9so6477MwjB9OuquROkObXY719NKSceBnISjXq3zeWwjYx7UuMJ7G2jpOghGET4INDvJ9qLZRd71qqJefabnAY1MepHw5DIDYoJnBzKsy6sTqJxzk3WHugh7KmfFM4/s320/hiking.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
5) The Pit has been wanting to start Fuzzy on board games for a while, and I kept telling him that Fuzz was much too young. Well, turns out Mama was wrong on this one. Father and son played Candy Land with much joy for the first time this month. Two peas in a pod.<br />
<br />

wan da = want that (often accompanied with a quick grab of the object in question. This is particularly awesome when what he wants is a food item Fuzzy is holding.)<br />
han = hand<br />
hane = plane<br />
eye = eye<br />
ba = bath (in addition to book)<br />
daaak = dark<br />
hone = phone<br />
pumpa = pumpkin<br />
wet = wet<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg29h7Qy8gmItVYzTZiJwHcCXOgQaiV7yquLmm2pUVeaOVFs27secp_l6sYo211GC2c-pV-lyPxehg6ZEDvqBb7IYW4P2U8VXyPtY2uBBtF5UA8R8UwIxctYuDC579gzE2s43sOEDOCNOA/s1600/pumpkin.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg29h7Qy8gmItVYzTZiJwHcCXOgQaiV7yquLmm2pUVeaOVFs27secp_l6sYo211GC2c-pV-lyPxehg6ZEDvqBb7IYW4P2U8VXyPtY2uBBtF5UA8R8UwIxctYuDC579gzE2s43sOEDOCNOA/s320/pumpkin.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2) Sprout can now easily identify mouth, nose, ears, hair, hands, legs, feet, and toes. Tricksy body parts like elbows continue to give him trouble.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnXORE6dXmLIKlohI0yrrw8GRPLxqbubGHrewW3-0cxaTMAVVMjC6-qCnyixDhQ0IztyON2b0i1fAZiNt2SotVDQIRqOaQPqhJPM6XR80u29tfBlAchCRVjh03x_USyP3dWfCpHGWalDg/s1600/grin.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnXORE6dXmLIKlohI0yrrw8GRPLxqbubGHrewW3-0cxaTMAVVMjC6-qCnyixDhQ0IztyON2b0i1fAZiNt2SotVDQIRqOaQPqhJPM6XR80u29tfBlAchCRVjh03x_USyP3dWfCpHGWalDg/s320/grin.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
3) Our new California nanny lives in the hood in Oakland, and she is continuously amazed at how tough Sprout is. "Sprout is the toughest 18 month old I've ever met. I could take him home to my street, and those kids wouldn't be able to push him around!" Part of his toughness is that he won't let big brother push him around. If Fuzzy comes in and hits or shoves him, Sprout will return the favor two-fold. The other part is that he barely cries when he gets hurt - even when the injuries seem like they would really smart.<br />

4) In addition to toughness, the baby's coordination continues to astound. He now walks down stairs relatively well when there's a handrail or I'm holding his hand. He continues to be a super climber, although we still hover nervously, particularly when he has a food item in his hand and refuses to let go while climbing<br />
<br />
5) At the playground, Sprout saw Fuzzy peeing against a tree, and was not satisfied until he was granted the same privilege. He tugged down his pants, and kept gesturing at his diaper until I took it off. Then he proudly peed all over his own shoes and took off.<br />
<br />

Looking at a bug in the yard, he turned to me and said, "What that little guy doing?" The use of 'little guy' wasn't something I've ever heard from him before.<br />
<br />
Then, he heard our nanny say "Home sweet home" after they got back from the park. That afternoon, returning Sprout's toy to his crib, Fuzzy repeated with genuine joy, "Home sweet home!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiygMRtZe9WXuyeork3nSEL_c4qjdKavxv9YaPx4B4MOFllcXbBXp8RC5sjKIrGsgUam09iFtClq9dpNyCfN8RqF4-cviyrZ_x_8nqfnaEOADvQAXWKC_XNcLti_-Sez1S35acsEW7Ye3Y/s1600/sushi.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiygMRtZe9WXuyeork3nSEL_c4qjdKavxv9YaPx4B4MOFllcXbBXp8RC5sjKIrGsgUam09iFtClq9dpNyCfN8RqF4-cviyrZ_x_8nqfnaEOADvQAXWKC_XNcLti_-Sez1S35acsEW7Ye3Y/s320/sushi.JPG" width="228" /></a></div>
<br />
2) I shouldn't laugh when Fuzzy throws a tantrum, but sometimes it's really hard. After a late night and associated misbehavior, he started throwing a tantrum after bath time because I told him he couldn't watch Reading Rainbow. He was going crazy in the bathroom, stomping his feet and flinging his towel around. "NOOOO, I want to watch Reading Rainbow!!! NOO!" Then he paused, and went in an unexpected direction. "I want to fweak out up here with you!!" <br />
<br />
I had to clarify. "You want to freak out?"<br />
<br />
"YES! With you! Hold me!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbgDt7NWB5Fhug2yRHnFrMbYR4a6tGycPYbyXiOg6eCF2CE6w3yoRn8BbmhWnK9JzzagitM1j1sfOvzi5ybwhbL6GSzBO5yARVJEHWr3aYkd4mYzC6b1Ow8QonOPLk339x5Mo1V0jSKmw/s1600/fighting.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbgDt7NWB5Fhug2yRHnFrMbYR4a6tGycPYbyXiOg6eCF2CE6w3yoRn8BbmhWnK9JzzagitM1j1sfOvzi5ybwhbL6GSzBO5yARVJEHWr3aYkd4mYzC6b1Ow8QonOPLk339x5Mo1V0jSKmw/s320/fighting.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
3) Lately the kid has been having fun pretending to be a cat. Typical interactions go something like this: "Mama, I a kitty." <br />
"Oh, does the kitty want some berries?"<br />
"Meow. That means 'yes'!" <br />
<br />
Another time I found him splayed out on the stairs. "Fuzzy, what's going on?" <br />
"I dead Mama. The kitty is dead."<br />
"Oh no, can the kitty get up?"<br />
For this inane comment, I received a well-deserved withering look. "No, because the kitty is dead!" <br />
<br />
In yet another incident, he was sitting on the couch with a bowl of Cheerios. He got down and tried to lick them like a cat, scattering Cheerios in all directions. <br />
"Can you eat those like a person instead of a kitty?" <br />
"No Mama, kitties eat like this {demonstrates}. And I a kitty, so I have to eat like this. Not like a person." It was hard to argue with that logic.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjimEC6DbcIU0lQuaP804nDXuRpA8iSnq23_Q1cHttv8b-hdgGYKMqKOleVhYnnpFTVNVSjwemaKAQRpMyXZid6Dg4WCjvijkFN6UkW7DTfI5FeAzjHJxR9gT2tgkFRD45LTvMislWj4fU/s1600/ice+cream.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjimEC6DbcIU0lQuaP804nDXuRpA8iSnq23_Q1cHttv8b-hdgGYKMqKOleVhYnnpFTVNVSjwemaKAQRpMyXZid6Dg4WCjvijkFN6UkW7DTfI5FeAzjHJxR9gT2tgkFRD45LTvMislWj4fU/s320/ice+cream.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
4) Fuzz goes to a Jewish preschool, and the other day came home with a burning desire to tell me something about Rosh Hashanah. "We had Rosh Hashanah at pweeschool, let me talk about that. Um...we had muuuffffiiins, and piwate booty. Annnnd - that's all I know." The muffins were apparently apple and honey, so that makes sense, but I'm still not sure what pirate booty had to do with anything. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh65u43E4JAdeSnhOCrS7yzlDLYuOv-OXRJWLF0TuYBeq5uhiX3hjqgBA3VOLIQBP60FenHfKCfO0LVJcuxJD0eMD2uGAj2pjuQAaLUyS0NV4cvRubMUZHmIKP4ByMYuWDYGvOq5FmRM10/s1600/preschool.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh65u43E4JAdeSnhOCrS7yzlDLYuOv-OXRJWLF0TuYBeq5uhiX3hjqgBA3VOLIQBP60FenHfKCfO0LVJcuxJD0eMD2uGAj2pjuQAaLUyS0NV4cvRubMUZHmIKP4ByMYuWDYGvOq5FmRM10/s320/preschool.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
5) One of the kid's favorite expressions is "oh man!" Except it's Fuzzy, so he stretches that out to something like "oh mannnnnn." And now Sprout is copying him, stretching the word out even longer - "mannnnnnnnnnn!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

appa = apple (or any other apple-shaped fruit, really)<br />
all done = all done<br />
bubba = bubbles<br />
baoon = balloon. It is now it's own distinct word, easily distinguishable from ball.<br />
naaaaa mmmm mmmm = no<br />
baby = baby<br />
ommm = home<br />
up = up<br />
um = um<br />
eee = tree<br />
bik = bike<br />
doe = door<br />
weeng = swing<br />
mou = mouth<br />
wun = run<br />
dadul= turtle<br />
wa dat = what that?<br />
weah dada = where daddy? He never really asks about anyone else.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXpfvFbW-4VarSam_sMUOBSf606ZTmU6yy3UO2yLD5y2ufqtibR4gbm5ZnkMHFrSsX9qxSoo3Mdtc-X_7ccpc26LS2vf04OKpLvfoU4R-SDjBPtgSx4q-5ctThfbrQ00Nsh3NA3mte4ok/s1600/watermelon.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXpfvFbW-4VarSam_sMUOBSf606ZTmU6yy3UO2yLD5y2ufqtibR4gbm5ZnkMHFrSsX9qxSoo3Mdtc-X_7ccpc26LS2vf04OKpLvfoU4R-SDjBPtgSx4q-5ctThfbrQ00Nsh3NA3mte4ok/s320/watermelon.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2) Walking past a picture of himself, Sprout says "Mine!" At first I thought he was pointing at himself, but gradually, I came to understand that this is what he calls his brother. You can draw your own conclusions about how often Fuzzy says this around Sprout to make Sprout think it is his name.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8YO5prJH0ceeP8olczspXEpilp4vljSl5elBoszKL_BE5mEsHygVu9mSvMQ9Hg98MK5PlkneJFsUp9yHe_PUHsAwssx_1VuGv-WxUuDWAqTC5mSAd3XULlm6TOWTNYCQm5txRTniPldk/s1600/with+bram.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8YO5prJH0ceeP8olczspXEpilp4vljSl5elBoszKL_BE5mEsHygVu9mSvMQ9Hg98MK5PlkneJFsUp9yHe_PUHsAwssx_1VuGv-WxUuDWAqTC5mSAd3XULlm6TOWTNYCQm5txRTniPldk/s320/with+bram.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
3) The night of 8/27-8/28 was a momentous occasion - Sprout slept through the night in his own crib for first time. Sadly, this was not the start of a trend.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiLWn8kM84O8IvOANiMuBANo6C03sxgnmTxbZr3zY8rjH539ZvsId_nlOkCo-A5VceaHc_GoRo7art4xLYXl6qZmMkPusD4LcdGIhLn4Xq8GvVmPyTa_WcQtSH5UP5xCbg-X4pDJ-WcV4/s1600/slide.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiLWn8kM84O8IvOANiMuBANo6C03sxgnmTxbZr3zY8rjH539ZvsId_nlOkCo-A5VceaHc_GoRo7art4xLYXl6qZmMkPusD4LcdGIhLn4Xq8GvVmPyTa_WcQtSH5UP5xCbg-X4pDJ-WcV4/s320/slide.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4) Another night this month was more typical. The baby woke up freaking out and making "ooh oooh oooh" noises at 2 AM. It turned out he wanted his huge, clanking, totally unwieldy monkey on a stick toy (see picture below). I tried to give him a small, soft monkey toy instead, but he yelled "NAAAA" over and over, and then when I set him down and handed him the soft monkey anyway, he grabbed it, opened the kitchen cabinet where we keep the trash can, and threw the monkey inside, all while giving me an extremely significant look. He ended up falling asleep with the stick toy, which I then gingerly removed from his grasp before falling back asleep myself - at 4 AM.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj11R90aTZi9LQNLEeMDlbsjrKtYxFMLA2jr1zLtjDSBFV__K8iIrHXYrpk1aVQqSPWsVauSkKklkYfH8m6WIixLBwNvhUdfOGlM8igHh6HAW-51HgRiK121i28Z7-GO1tEUqNtjBZlLbk/s1600/monkey+toy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj11R90aTZi9LQNLEeMDlbsjrKtYxFMLA2jr1zLtjDSBFV__K8iIrHXYrpk1aVQqSPWsVauSkKklkYfH8m6WIixLBwNvhUdfOGlM8igHh6HAW-51HgRiK121i28Z7-GO1tEUqNtjBZlLbk/s1600/monkey+toy.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
5) Sprout is an amazing climber. The other day we watched half in horror and half in admiration as he climbed to the top of ladders meant for much older kids at the playground.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqtt1zzvCKMQGRyV1wkcNutnF5pTV60hTWzVNTZrIsuGE100k6RkYAhHDquKZRYWJVgJw1QYby08h53MoWwBU3PRCGewoPjDGE-cq8MJ1dZJe9cCH6shd5BJvP8O80BAsNv0TKIZERkj4/s1600/climbing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqtt1zzvCKMQGRyV1wkcNutnF5pTV60hTWzVNTZrIsuGE100k6RkYAhHDquKZRYWJVgJw1QYby08h53MoWwBU3PRCGewoPjDGE-cq8MJ1dZJe9cCH6shd5BJvP8O80BAsNv0TKIZERkj4/s320/climbing.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
6) In addition to his athletic prowess, the kid is also a neat freak - he insists on always putting his books back where they belong and his blocks in the basket, and is thrilled when given the opportunity to throw something in the trash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7aWbm5bUXF8wynKuU6wO3fYLY3O-T54FW66fKZjoYKuek4ot_j25v1o0Lgrw2v76DDOpaAqPSeaH4TUIZVooJyVnk622uJ0qDM3jMbFUVyPdlcULGToF_xGPAgFQ9H4l1y7VPK0cIW1c/s1600/with+cow.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7aWbm5bUXF8wynKuU6wO3fYLY3O-T54FW66fKZjoYKuek4ot_j25v1o0Lgrw2v76DDOpaAqPSeaH4TUIZVooJyVnk622uJ0qDM3jMbFUVyPdlcULGToF_xGPAgFQ9H4l1y7VPK0cIW1c/s320/with+cow.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
7) Sprout is actually kissing people upon request Previously when asked to give somebody a kiss, he would just present *his* cheek to be kissed. I've even witnessed the baby giving a few spontaneous kisses, the cutest of which was one for his brother after Fuzzy spent a weekend away with grandma.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiLbNgWNzGAL3-zvlY_-i9la1Nc4QLvSG81vwoBFOO7KcdMrp0wR3qwstsksiIkUdmwf87vnw2z_-Jn0DDGIbJrFh8EndpKPVvP2SrrMq0b9KDw9CSeg4nSQdbSG0WLrUlnBJOWDH60iY/s1600/ice+cream.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiLbNgWNzGAL3-zvlY_-i9la1Nc4QLvSG81vwoBFOO7KcdMrp0wR3qwstsksiIkUdmwf87vnw2z_-Jn0DDGIbJrFh8EndpKPVvP2SrrMq0b9KDw9CSeg4nSQdbSG0WLrUlnBJOWDH60iY/s320/ice+cream.JPG" width="238" /></a></div>

"That's vewee complicated!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxcbRxVKNC5hRTgy2qKggZoW8C96gCDhk7RfHwkaAU4qnYme0T8fCGxCLUagqo0BP7FX1r2YdtDSMaLIenw1Lo5Nm7SvmLJb_ilEshsJRiPNJYqMF3h865IfB_Sqr-JhexJUlu0agL32U/s1600/ship.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="229" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxcbRxVKNC5hRTgy2qKggZoW8C96gCDhk7RfHwkaAU4qnYme0T8fCGxCLUagqo0BP7FX1r2YdtDSMaLIenw1Lo5Nm7SvmLJb_ilEshsJRiPNJYqMF3h865IfB_Sqr-JhexJUlu0agL32U/s320/ship.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2) Our new neighborhood has a pool club, which houses both a regular pool and a baby pool. Fuzz has been characteristically cautious of the big pool, but his joy when he finally got in was tangible: "MAMA, MAMA, I IN DA BIG POOL!! BECAUSE I A BIG BOY!!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY0WXS79s2v4SgBSJ89o_dSMWoVEksJX6tUlj6GDf3nx4up8KQpOe-h3JxJeDDawiV-SAjXn7Iv0vJ96DtXOiom6FUk7Z6wOAc58IVU5VRZtxxWIyfPPVADGqRShKw_EEZX8fmqyJMzsM/s1600/pool.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY0WXS79s2v4SgBSJ89o_dSMWoVEksJX6tUlj6GDf3nx4up8KQpOe-h3JxJeDDawiV-SAjXn7Iv0vJ96DtXOiom6FUk7Z6wOAc58IVU5VRZtxxWIyfPPVADGqRShKw_EEZX8fmqyJMzsM/s320/pool.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
3) Although Fuzzy is very sensitive to certain things, he is oddly unaffected by others. I avoided reading him The Gingerbread Man fairytale for a long time, thinking he wouldn't like the ending. However, when I finally read to him about the gingerbread man getting eaten, the kid was unmoved: "Oh, dat woman is going to have to make anodder one."<br />
<br />
4) While staying with my mom, Fuzzy picked up her habit of saying 'oh god.' Except he says it with her Russian accent and exact intonation: "Oh got!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg7rXWxjaVuGqCg-rMBRHJPR4XZq8LiFyLE_H6ANoxpgNZrwx1fPm2QOcsli2K5ZCL1N8lGiREh3Y9OYKqv3xe6_kg1zssS5XjDY9n8nDckzcaa1Di4Q62pB9DluGYHDyOwzznu-tkOxw/s1600/grr+face.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg7rXWxjaVuGqCg-rMBRHJPR4XZq8LiFyLE_H6ANoxpgNZrwx1fPm2QOcsli2K5ZCL1N8lGiREh3Y9OYKqv3xe6_kg1zssS5XjDY9n8nDckzcaa1Di4Q62pB9DluGYHDyOwzznu-tkOxw/s320/grr+face.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
5) The other day, Fuzz announced that he wanted to pee standing up. He pulled down his underwear, got ready, and then looked at me with a little confusion. "But Mama, I can't operate my penis." <br />
<br />
"What do you mean, you can't operate it?" <br />
<br />
"When I operate it, the pee goes there, there, and there," he said pointing all around the toilet. "How do I operate it?"<br />
<br />
Kid, if I knew, lots of ladies would want the secret.<br />
<br />

6) Fuzzy is getting very good at pretend play. For example, he pretended to be dolphin in the pool. "I have a tail and flippers, and I have one two free fou five dolphin fwiends. We like to splash and make bubbles in the water, and we go on a dolphin caraswheel - we sit on the horses with our tails, and hold on with our flippers."<br />
<br />

7) In a triumph for our new dentist, she finally got Fuzzy to start brushing his teeth with real fluorinated toothpaste, like a big boy. He only swallows it about half the time.Peachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04758650770902334842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6433014852622963938.post-32752306585185684682015-08-15T17:47:00.000-04:002016-01-06T00:23:28.955-05:0016 Months1) New words this month:<br />
nigh nigh = night night<br />
moo = cow<br />
mooooon = moon<br />
mine! = mine! (always said very definitively, with that exclamation point on the end)<br />
hi = hi, or high, or occasionally butterfly<br />
eye = butterfly (usually, except when its 'hi')<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjENNeftUn7nUFs3m79YfCsErrYSJfSm9VDs9fBnQFlfvonANPvfbWQkVxwIcVXDhwtKGS4GYszmXoHhjVBK0kTyXllYy3zkB76jThVbuO_ISwc7XNQ3dzscT0M1rDlvZIwbcRXhQrJIQA/s1600/funny+face.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjENNeftUn7nUFs3m79YfCsErrYSJfSm9VDs9fBnQFlfvonANPvfbWQkVxwIcVXDhwtKGS4GYszmXoHhjVBK0kTyXllYy3zkB76jThVbuO_ISwc7XNQ3dzscT0M1rDlvZIwbcRXhQrJIQA/s320/funny+face.jpg" width="228" /></a></div>
<br />
2) We're still sort of confused about down and up. Sprout will often say 'dunnnn' and hold his arms to be picked up. However, he gets an insane amount of joy from saying 'buh bye' and waving. Seriously, the grin on his face is worth somebody leaving.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtW2y4QkBrVQdV4Wpp29Jp-lbbnxUB0VcI7qIsyN8nCDwQstYGvcuY44chpMgbmrLGrU44BnH6wMYrSchZIcwUd2Q8u11LMMIBawPUaut8rO2KLimcLXsexAp_grLaHlZPJinepu5yXqs/s1600/working+it.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtW2y4QkBrVQdV4Wpp29Jp-lbbnxUB0VcI7qIsyN8nCDwQstYGvcuY44chpMgbmrLGrU44BnH6wMYrSchZIcwUd2Q8u11LMMIBawPUaut8rO2KLimcLXsexAp_grLaHlZPJinepu5yXqs/s320/working+it.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
3) For the first time, I heard the baby utter two words together this month, and in multiple situations. For example, pointing at my mom's bed: "Baba nigh nigh," or when leaving a fountain: "buh bye wawa!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwokINjUuD_b1zt4ax7vXOQ0JvFMIG6J1-U_B5P5aerO3w1R5C9XRg5ooZi-7zcfn9sE3I6Kte3OgAR2kmQhDixDCOS8lpgSK6iXCEkIulbP31KsDY0GHH-zdvUUt1yuno8RWSU2GDswQ/s1600/pool.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwokINjUuD_b1zt4ax7vXOQ0JvFMIG6J1-U_B5P5aerO3w1R5C9XRg5ooZi-7zcfn9sE3I6Kte3OgAR2kmQhDixDCOS8lpgSK6iXCEkIulbP31KsDY0GHH-zdvUUt1yuno8RWSU2GDswQ/s320/pool.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4) Despite his still limited vocabulary, Sprout understands pretty much everything that is going on, and can point to relevant household objects, as well as parts of the body. I can usually get him to point to eyes, nose, mouth, hair, ears, hands, feet, tummy before he grows bored of our game.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6WJ2PsPNHuntcTo-upqzV4PYzk9KyGwbH0gtuaIXnRK-iD0i_7OG2XNCkgtvFpK5Y8GbgnFEySJjN4qeE35_Pj96tlWudxh3NNVifrC3h_O4F7zkX1rrIGsYuXl5-sb1Itkn8WBZHQOo/s1600/pasta+zombie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6WJ2PsPNHuntcTo-upqzV4PYzk9KyGwbH0gtuaIXnRK-iD0i_7OG2XNCkgtvFpK5Y8GbgnFEySJjN4qeE35_Pj96tlWudxh3NNVifrC3h_O4F7zkX1rrIGsYuXl5-sb1Itkn8WBZHQOo/s320/pasta+zombie.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
5) Perhaps because he understands most everything but can articulate so little, he's settled on a really unfortunate banshee scream when he wants something. Everyone on our new block is hoping this passes soon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8HlOxv6FjBEfXNWa807LevGR81mRsByBaUoF_JbK7KPYB23T2iS9-r67REnmFNTSyZ0U858z_pOpIR_7OP1Mu8mbZDq9cDnEPHNGhBAKdJcNOMDvdo98q3bRJrxm_Asuc09AZFt0LIeY/s1600/slide.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8HlOxv6FjBEfXNWa807LevGR81mRsByBaUoF_JbK7KPYB23T2iS9-r67REnmFNTSyZ0U858z_pOpIR_7OP1Mu8mbZDq9cDnEPHNGhBAKdJcNOMDvdo98q3bRJrxm_Asuc09AZFt0LIeY/s320/slide.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
6) Sprout continues to be the toughest baby on the block, not taking any shit from his big brother. If Fuzzy pushes him, accidentally or on purpose, Sprout will come back twice as hard with his little fists. For the most part though, the baby adores his older brother, and tries to copy everything he does.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiE8nSHrBokHFKq-IMVxADDgTJkgfRMydFkw1ooxr9-W6nWle88RVYk95uDzsdXGC8it4-usufvcbcqjEm4O-aaOZHHY982315HMxxq4mzvKXUhdejxLTVplwx5fz3gKTEmI-bgtLyj86Q/s1600/boys.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="229" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiE8nSHrBokHFKq-IMVxADDgTJkgfRMydFkw1ooxr9-W6nWle88RVYk95uDzsdXGC8it4-usufvcbcqjEm4O-aaOZHHY982315HMxxq4mzvKXUhdejxLTVplwx5fz3gKTEmI-bgtLyj86Q/s320/boys.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

Yes, yes it does, as I've been trying to tell you for years, you wretched child. We've ended bath time in tears so very very often, because *someone* refused to either close his eyes or tilt his head backward when the shampoo was washed out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiYt0-r8s2yL9mM-o19fjqbzAvzw_2atakHN5JH3ALAwEkF9Qg93FyOG4IQKSgq0yV0shu3ESvbaIyEGDRDeb9yofk_LeMyxCTe23OnquIV7qFgll3B7ZwdTTREFSpw8ZxIb0ejceQOwY/s1600/smile+big.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiYt0-r8s2yL9mM-o19fjqbzAvzw_2atakHN5JH3ALAwEkF9Qg93FyOG4IQKSgq0yV0shu3ESvbaIyEGDRDeb9yofk_LeMyxCTe23OnquIV7qFgll3B7ZwdTTREFSpw8ZxIb0ejceQOwY/s320/smile+big.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
2) Fuzz recently requested to stop wearing diapers to bed, and in a major achievement, slept through the night with only underwear on for two whole nights in a row. No accidents or anything - and then, of course, we moved.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
3) Upon being offered half of The Pit's falafel pita - "No Daddy, give me real food, dat kids eat!"<br />
<br />
4) Fuzz absolutely refused to go down for a nap, and ran away from me screaming to hide in the garage. I bring out an M&M, he magically appeared. "Can I have dat?" "Well, who gets candy?" "Little boys!" "Little boys who..." "Listen! Bed!" and ran to lay down. After dinner, he then asked if he could have more candy, because, and I quote, "I already pooped out the other candy, and now I need more!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwnsa8y1IdZfQlBg32uYeAIcwV7A64kXC-RBBD0kenB_FZH1bnLfaGlnIvhApmmmqtm8zkqhz54xsGIVwDsrnfG3tR_7-DqKs7hLaGfbIOly5SsKN-EY8VjPBJPA4OwFQxx3IRDFBI4uQ/s1600/baby+tub.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwnsa8y1IdZfQlBg32uYeAIcwV7A64kXC-RBBD0kenB_FZH1bnLfaGlnIvhApmmmqtm8zkqhz54xsGIVwDsrnfG3tR_7-DqKs7hLaGfbIOly5SsKN-EY8VjPBJPA4OwFQxx3IRDFBI4uQ/s320/baby+tub.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
5) In preparation for the move, we were in the basement sorting toys when Fuzzy turned out the light. After I implored him to turn them on so I can see the toys, he said, "No mama, we don't need light. We can pretend we dolphins, and use echolocation."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
nanda = panda<br />
wow = wow<br />
ah ah, or eee eee eee (and assorted shriekings) = monkey<br />
oof oof or woa woa = dog<br />
mow mow = cat<br />
clicking noise with tongue = bird (sometimes squirrel too)<br />
na = nice (always accompanied by hair stroking - he's being nice, you see, not hitting people)<br />
baooo = balloon<br />
no mo = no more<br />
no = nose<br />
boom = boom (he says this when he falls)<br />
buh bye = bye bye<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaQF-4ih-mvH0lqapop1fCZrckk-PDkeip1FPMS-X5O6PNRqhdPjRGi45Ejcoz5JC0d_7yUC-pWpHTXjtVdYiUROiHcAEdeJIi3BOTCofjkydxfaAbzbzXtJHHty1cWNyhc6bQv_29e0Q/s1600/milk.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaQF-4ih-mvH0lqapop1fCZrckk-PDkeip1FPMS-X5O6PNRqhdPjRGi45Ejcoz5JC0d_7yUC-pWpHTXjtVdYiUROiHcAEdeJIi3BOTCofjkydxfaAbzbzXtJHHty1cWNyhc6bQv_29e0Q/s320/milk.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2) As referenced above, Sprout's word for falling is 'boom.' In a terrifying turn of events, I found out he isn't really scared of booming. We were up on the highest playground structure, which includes a pole for the big kids to slide down. Sprout walked up to the opening, pointed at the ground 10 feet below, and said 'boom.' I happily agreed with him, until he up and tried to step off the structure anyway. Fortunately I grabbed him in time, but my rather pointed cries of "no boom!" did not seem to make much of an impact on the kid. He tried to the same thing again the next day, and now I'm super paranoid whenever we go to the playground.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7krH80rjqxlpRyDrMmlcdul9QhDVLh9lm6QdRJkDCzj-tTxbhKf8x3TTXw0gvbWAhh_nbW13ye7t-ME-_vjhgX8wX2F1sCLxf-cQLY2veO8CDKPid9Hyxs1ssLZ95QjfO8uplSrGZlgI/s1600/playground+high.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7krH80rjqxlpRyDrMmlcdul9QhDVLh9lm6QdRJkDCzj-tTxbhKf8x3TTXw0gvbWAhh_nbW13ye7t-ME-_vjhgX8wX2F1sCLxf-cQLY2veO8CDKPid9Hyxs1ssLZ95QjfO8uplSrGZlgI/s320/playground+high.JPG" width="214" /></a></div>
<br />
3) Unlike his brother, Sprout has never been a huge fan of books. Until recently, he typically tolerate just a page or two, and then slammed the book shut with a sense of finality. If you tried to open it again, he would give you a pointed look and slams it shut on your fingers again. However, this month Sprout has displayed a little more interest in books. He will now sit for three or four pages, especially if the book makes sounds or has pictures of things he likes. Pandas and bananas are very popular with him. We also recently received a book that makes noises of different animals if you press the buttons - the wolf howling made a great impression on the baby, and now he tries to imitate it whenever he spots the page.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSUZbOxByBegv_-HKNvm6AOjBW85PTutDtWFKECSdL715Y_cRZSvRxK6b3Bg1tfVbTdFpuX9ueI11Ns-Mtndm4vzU5km_7Fvauxeob8ECyhvGbKm3HXg1OSNlmHGOljTK3pQ8ewO26YrE/s1600/playground.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSUZbOxByBegv_-HKNvm6AOjBW85PTutDtWFKECSdL715Y_cRZSvRxK6b3Bg1tfVbTdFpuX9ueI11Ns-Mtndm4vzU5km_7Fvauxeob8ECyhvGbKm3HXg1OSNlmHGOljTK3pQ8ewO26YrE/s320/playground.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
4) Sprout has been shaking his head "no" for a while now, but this month the gesture got significantly more emphatic. There is no confusion at mealtimes about whether Sprout wants something or not - if he doesn't, he nearly shakes himself out of the highchair telling us "no."<br />
<br />
5) Sprout likes to throw food off his high chair. Then he listens with a grin while we tell him, "No, no, no!" Then he sits there and shakes his finger back at us, presumably explaining that throwing food is a "no no no." Once all the food is cleaned up, the cycle repeats itself.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj56T7PLXyQV4OmwEZtp3byZLnl1pOqeIcv08C8Mi0BSsbVlEtjDRBUn5NvC3jyfHuaKN5z3_J-NrGoo5OpQOwbPohf19jK-WJUrQet5fmZ36ByjgTXxo9tEAq_XHJ9EuVnf51mfttUYeU/s1600/lip.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj56T7PLXyQV4OmwEZtp3byZLnl1pOqeIcv08C8Mi0BSsbVlEtjDRBUn5NvC3jyfHuaKN5z3_J-NrGoo5OpQOwbPohf19jK-WJUrQet5fmZ36ByjgTXxo9tEAq_XHJ9EuVnf51mfttUYeU/s320/lip.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
6) However, sometimes his powers of deduction are a little bit stronger. He was playing with balloon on kitchen floor. Suddenly, the kid peeled up his shirt, poked at his stomach, and said "baooo?" with a slightly questioning air. His little round tummy was quite reminiscent, indeed.<br />
<br />
7) In another connection, he recently looked at me to make sure I was paying attention, then poked at diaper, looked at me significantly again, and proceeded to poop.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8QlcORv_bdCFYH2tXiYXWgw1io_CNQ_MschCoojE5xKoKO_N6wQbTPO7vSQNH4yF_nbv1f-ZfsdeVi1_yGO0K9NaWpez9lMbt80eBkDgDriGuSfbfDi68gMgTOh0JWdYhCtb09c3BCtY/s1600/crying.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8QlcORv_bdCFYH2tXiYXWgw1io_CNQ_MschCoojE5xKoKO_N6wQbTPO7vSQNH4yF_nbv1f-ZfsdeVi1_yGO0K9NaWpez9lMbt80eBkDgDriGuSfbfDi68gMgTOh0JWdYhCtb09c3BCtY/s320/crying.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
8) The baby loves to share his food and feed others. This food is often half-masticated, taken out of his own mouth, but Sprout will not take "no" for an answer. You will share his smushed peas, and you will like them.<br />

9) In a major milestone for the family, we actually moved back to California just before Sprout turned 15 months. We're staying with my mom for a few weeks until our furniture arrives, and thus far the kids have taken the move with equanimity. It helped that in anticipation of having grandchildren close by, my mom remodeled her backyard and set up a whole freaking playground in there for them - there are so many new toys here, they haven't even had time to fight over them all. And yet for all that, the kids spend the most time in this old baby bathtub:<br />

Here's three representative exchanges.<br />
<br />
Fuzz: "What's inside a fish?" <br />
Me: "Ummm..." Stalling for time while trying to think about how to explain organs, bones, and flesh.<br />
Fuzz, while I'm still ummming: "Fish!"<br />
<br />
Fuzz: "Mama, where does meat come from?"<br />
Me: "From different kinds of animals."<br />
Fuzz: "What aminals?"<br />
Me: "Cow."<br />
Fuzz: "Nooooo."<br />
Me: "Chicken."<br />
Fuzz: "Noooo."<br />
Me: "Pig."<br />
Fuzz: "Nooo." <br />
Me: "Well, what kind of animal do you think meat comes from?"<br />
Fuzz, with utter conviction: "Polar bear!"<br />
<br />
Me: "Did you go to the park today?"<br />
Fuzz: "No!"<br />
Me: "No? I saw that you and Sprout and Maya were gone, and so was the stroller. Where else could you have been?"<br />
Fuzz: "Missing!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJCn4k8X5ceR-O6CQ3WdarFSeCHjTKkbkKyoMhab75hHUb_CRkVf9p3c3Z5WLwJWiREyyoIFKvy1SR52sb-0SbYy3gaX8dYYp0gY6SqBNwnI0ZgajlRqDeAUJBEfTK1pU6aWfkgQeBvQk/s1600/smile.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJCn4k8X5ceR-O6CQ3WdarFSeCHjTKkbkKyoMhab75hHUb_CRkVf9p3c3Z5WLwJWiREyyoIFKvy1SR52sb-0SbYy3gaX8dYYp0gY6SqBNwnI0ZgajlRqDeAUJBEfTK1pU6aWfkgQeBvQk/s320/smile.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<br />
2) Fuzzy developed a new-found fear of the dark, and of his dresser, and consequently hasn't been going to sleep easily. In desperation, I resorted to science. "I'm going to give you a very special medicine called a Placebo. It makes kids sleepy and gives them very good dreams." Fuzzy was immediately on board. "Okay!" Then, after I gave him a syringe full of water out of an old medicine bottle. "Hey, this is funny, it tastes like water!" I played it cool. "Yeah, that is funny." Fuzzy yawned, stretched, lay down, and said, "Okay Mama, I sleepy now." Sadly the sleepy effect only lasted a few days, although the kid kept demanding Placebo for several weeks thereafter.<br />
<br />
3) Fuzz has been a little parrot lately, repeating newly discovered information to the closest person he can find, even if said person clearly already heard it. For example, The Pitt was watching TV when Fuzzy wandered by with me. The kid was captivated, and pointing at the action, said, "Look at dat!!" The Pit explained that it was a game called ice hockey. Fuzzy then turned to me self-importantly, and pronounced very seriously, "Dat ice hockey Mama!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSEyN8LRq2pOfUQq6k8RkIvXRngdb91YJQf5Lv-zfOS7W0dPvXW3T4QzAOWXoJU_X2Qj6z6XFWYU8HEFfS2Wkc7Ae8JWXBp4K3DDTThhOWGr5wbArE-YRwW44N_rCcbUxVAlWAs2SOoMo/s1600/splashing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSEyN8LRq2pOfUQq6k8RkIvXRngdb91YJQf5Lv-zfOS7W0dPvXW3T4QzAOWXoJU_X2Qj6z6XFWYU8HEFfS2Wkc7Ae8JWXBp4K3DDTThhOWGr5wbArE-YRwW44N_rCcbUxVAlWAs2SOoMo/s320/splashing.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4) Fuzz has been joking recently too. Although...well, let me just recount his last one for you:<br />
Fuzz: "Mama, I will tell you a joke. Say 'knock knock' Mama."<br />
Me, complying, although I was pretty sure he wasn't going to be able to salvage this one: "Knock knock." <br />
Fuzz: "Who's there?" ...stares at me expectantly. <br />
<br />
5) Fuzzy has also started lying this month. And he is *terrible* at it. As soon as the words are out of his mouth, he starts giggling uncontrollably.<br />
<br />
6) I've been fairly impressed, because Fuzzy is actually remarkably restrained when Sprout hits him, steps on him, pinches him, pulls his hair, or otherwise assaults him. Sometimes he shoves the baby, but usually he just runs to me and cries.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

1) Sprout has slowed down on the new words a little this month:</div>
dunnn = down<br />
blowing noise = dandelion<br />
wawa = water<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgItuyS1gbyWXmQhe7Ig5vMd8oHxw3zWrcQbklrPcSsQWBZonwLjol71HLlPQulbvV6V0cu-Nlm2TfRlPD6x-9ALq_jcFcOJxRbDdHNV3sfo7D6wCL5n5YwoIrEAqbldjJKp6bjGMc_OdQ/s1600/glasses.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgItuyS1gbyWXmQhe7Ig5vMd8oHxw3zWrcQbklrPcSsQWBZonwLjol71HLlPQulbvV6V0cu-Nlm2TfRlPD6x-9ALq_jcFcOJxRbDdHNV3sfo7D6wCL5n5YwoIrEAqbldjJKp6bjGMc_OdQ/s320/glasses.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2) However, he made up for it with loads of adorable noises. When staying in Tahoe during our California visit in May, he saw multiple bear statues all over the place. Now he very happily growls whenever he sees a bear picture. It's quite a credible effort, I didn't realize such a little throat could make that realistic of a growl. Sprout has also been happily babbling this month, chattering nonstop nonsense in his car seat and the stroller as we push him along.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGO9lpcv8Lw2cBBmNU7FMeEvWNHAh2YLcIn6SuSfYzgE3hXF0MFVI63gf-vM-0YEI693vr3Dz9u1QzbF-f8xOFMzeuCNQxAfuFHA5p2i6rprjhDVP2vrZt7AO1-NLZ8AE1QFjsDMIeCQ0/s1600/bear.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="229" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGO9lpcv8Lw2cBBmNU7FMeEvWNHAh2YLcIn6SuSfYzgE3hXF0MFVI63gf-vM-0YEI693vr3Dz9u1QzbF-f8xOFMzeuCNQxAfuFHA5p2i6rprjhDVP2vrZt7AO1-NLZ8AE1QFjsDMIeCQ0/s320/bear.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
3) During our California trip, my mom brought out a set of plastic golf clubs and balls that she had intended to gift to Fuzzy. As it turned out, Fuzzy was not particularly interested in this pastime - but Sprout took to golf with great enthusiasm, and more skill then I would have imagined. He was pretty good at actually hitting the giant balls, and also distressingly good at knocking Fuzzy or his cousin over with the clubs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdsVHHqzyrBQ2oSeOi9Rs51Y299oa7Q093ycutFIZqBJO3O8F7ZdahkyMJSbCQJ6aZDJTENeYrqi7qH9V_cQZ-oPwOaCdP1vk3uXvpiTRtc8LtzFogpQuuLqkjmSRXVnHFyjHLguQwPfQ/s1600/golf+club.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdsVHHqzyrBQ2oSeOi9Rs51Y299oa7Q093ycutFIZqBJO3O8F7ZdahkyMJSbCQJ6aZDJTENeYrqi7qH9V_cQZ-oPwOaCdP1vk3uXvpiTRtc8LtzFogpQuuLqkjmSRXVnHFyjHLguQwPfQ/s320/golf+club.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4) There's also been evidence of jealousy from Sprout - when I'm holding both him and Fuzzy, the baby will now make a determined effort to push his big brother out of my lap. Previously this type of behavior was confined to Fuzzy, and now there is twice the shoving when both of them are feeling territorial.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjORQDeRBHPTr2MvgTyb_bcHaxmseCsWjlWecn6NU00hPra1FyqD6y7rtS88H-4cyiTpDVimJ6hqn9zH6HF1yJCnUOwLXC1T6g0aagk3ZEIKNoX-o-_tqBrkZ3z-6jc8JuaxTVzKMHkEcg/s1600/pool.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjORQDeRBHPTr2MvgTyb_bcHaxmseCsWjlWecn6NU00hPra1FyqD6y7rtS88H-4cyiTpDVimJ6hqn9zH6HF1yJCnUOwLXC1T6g0aagk3ZEIKNoX-o-_tqBrkZ3z-6jc8JuaxTVzKMHkEcg/s320/pool.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
5) In a potentially linked behavior, he's also been very snuggly with me in the mornings (he usually moves into our bed sometime between 1 and 3 am). When he wakes up, he rolls over and adorably squishes himself against me, rubbing his cheeks on me and smiling beatifically if I pat him. There's really no better way to wake up than with a snuggly, huggy baby.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

In a major achievement, he has learned to kiss properly. Instead of slobbering or licking me gently, he will now give an actual peck on the cheek.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1P36s8B1OeCUdE2szJcpa0SxuJ4NUsEhLG7zODKOY1ypp7vsLf9kFlKg0BeNz3uJZFEioJoaT9qn6t-HISLX7o24R2jIO9hZn8d_6Fv_eqsMugxkQz7GGD3agGFrCH9Sw8u9r2P2ECRc/s1600/birthday+smile.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="230" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1P36s8B1OeCUdE2szJcpa0SxuJ4NUsEhLG7zODKOY1ypp7vsLf9kFlKg0BeNz3uJZFEioJoaT9qn6t-HISLX7o24R2jIO9hZn8d_6Fv_eqsMugxkQz7GGD3agGFrCH9Sw8u9r2P2ECRc/s320/birthday+smile.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2) In less polite but also adorable news, I present two poop-related stories which showcase that creative play is not necessarily for the best:<br />
<br />
A: Fuzzy was playing in my bedroom as I got ready for work. He gathered a pile of toys on the ottoman, and stood behind it, telling me he was The Giver. Periodically he would call me over and give me a toy. Then, I heard him yell, "Mama, The Giver has to poop!" I ran over to him to bring him to the potty, at which point, he explained that The Giver had pooped in his underwear. As I cleaned him up, he started laughing and gleefully chanting, "Poop-giver, poop-giver, poop-giver." Sigh, no thank you, poop-giver.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRMUo8LLd9c-7jKeBhSjGo5PSaqexPQdnXnJHWXfV_2_jRlImAtTvNMPNWsOgPSfeyZct3r7lXEfb4Jt0zp58YtpIxW94DbZQuqaavIr0mWnpOtqJQFBMLNGpptf0ofwexaQs368Hk8HE/s1600/upside+down.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRMUo8LLd9c-7jKeBhSjGo5PSaqexPQdnXnJHWXfV_2_jRlImAtTvNMPNWsOgPSfeyZct3r7lXEfb4Jt0zp58YtpIxW94DbZQuqaavIr0mWnpOtqJQFBMLNGpptf0ofwexaQs368Hk8HE/s320/upside+down.JPG" width="228" /></a></div>
<br />
B: Fuzzy has been pretending to be a baby turtle recently. He will hide under a blanket or something, say he is under his shell, and then ask Mama Turtle (me, obviously) to come hug him/play with him/call him to come out. Minutes following the poop-giver incident, when he was already running around pants-less, he ran over to me and pointed to a spot on my floor: "Mama, I pooped!" he said. "WHY BABY? Why didn't you come to the potty?? We JUST talked about this!" "But Mama, I was being a baby turtle, and I tried to lay an egg."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEpdRVyhB9fv6U7avtpXVTW21dU5uu6J_q-2stEYsDunK5AeexZdKyGb8WPDUKpqr7glF2qEj5fC2WhFGJGSKOHXBgLCLT9jhjXIZVOKUcfUzu2hMFEo9VWRRHSbmIB7MH4M75MeSLCVI/s1600/sunglasses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEpdRVyhB9fv6U7avtpXVTW21dU5uu6J_q-2stEYsDunK5AeexZdKyGb8WPDUKpqr7glF2qEj5fC2WhFGJGSKOHXBgLCLT9jhjXIZVOKUcfUzu2hMFEo9VWRRHSbmIB7MH4M75MeSLCVI/s320/sunglasses.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
3) This month Fuzzy has been concerned with "bad mans" and appropriate courses of justice. On our walk the other day, he took a stick, broke it in two, and handed me half. "Dis is your sword Mama. And dis is my sword. We knights. We turtles. We turtle-knights. Come on turtle-knight Mama, let's go find some naughty people and hit them with our swords."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijJM3HehtkcZutRaTYY7c5KjgwWxhWuzgNY8xuag_TF61NjfhWMM5Qc15roCvBhuO-oONtl-aSzToN49PXB7nyQd2NNjcP3ecxbESRcR4wTo7u9VhkNVd0tA8vXoTSSH4Wiqw4J1lSLz0/s1600/fish.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijJM3HehtkcZutRaTYY7c5KjgwWxhWuzgNY8xuag_TF61NjfhWMM5Qc15roCvBhuO-oONtl-aSzToN49PXB7nyQd2NNjcP3ecxbESRcR4wTo7u9VhkNVd0tA8vXoTSSH4Wiqw4J1lSLz0/s320/fish.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4) The sibling relationship in a nutshell: whenever Sprout cries to be picked up, Fuzzy immediately wants to be picked up too. "Hold me Mama, hold me!" Most inconvenient timing ever. However, he is also very protective of his little brother - I put both of them on a pool table, and Fuzzy immediately chastised me for my negligence. He ran over and bear-hugged Sprout, saying, "Mama, he going to fall Mama!!" He will also try to reassure Sprout in the car when he is crying - "It okay Sprout, we almost home Sprout!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi93rfdm5ZHjvXSakumqKCsgxIdLHElwajeeMx2Jv3RWQfnOb8nNDXHAQZDi0rptJ8uLIK2jlj3bpfNVIgAKYeXBnhI1bgFRWl4cyEuJy1lzOqypzvIKMdDWaFD7Dq9ILD2knpQF9UzYn4/s1600/hug.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi93rfdm5ZHjvXSakumqKCsgxIdLHElwajeeMx2Jv3RWQfnOb8nNDXHAQZDi0rptJ8uLIK2jlj3bpfNVIgAKYeXBnhI1bgFRWl4cyEuJy1lzOqypzvIKMdDWaFD7Dq9ILD2knpQF9UzYn4/s320/hug.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
5) In spite of the poop stories above, Fuzz is actually pretty good about going to the bathroom, or at least, not going in his pants. In the backyard one day, while I was distracted with Sprout, Fuzzy dug a hole, pulled down his pants, and when I turned around, was concentrating hard on peeing in the hole.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRR6xFospbUCWOfGTWXJ1k8f5s3F_ExnmRKRHOeiVeCuOJryw6ofFEkDGuIC-rR3NK6LH5dPYMvWLDOrbklaPeCuoxre9U35dqIicZcjdaJOzt7LFtdQ5GyA1AUXPsfIeVb2oFvJkOkHI/s1600/monkey+bar.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRR6xFospbUCWOfGTWXJ1k8f5s3F_ExnmRKRHOeiVeCuOJryw6ofFEkDGuIC-rR3NK6LH5dPYMvWLDOrbklaPeCuoxre9U35dqIicZcjdaJOzt7LFtdQ5GyA1AUXPsfIeVb2oFvJkOkHI/s320/monkey+bar.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
6) The Pit taught Fuzzy a song. The song goes like so: "The Grand Old Duke of York, he had 10,000 men, he marched them up a hill and he marched them down again." I didn't realize that The Pit had sung this song to Fuzz, and was thus mighty confused when the kid demanded that I sing "The Grundle of the Ork" for him. He did not appreciate my confusion, pleas that I didn't know this song, or the resulting laughter when he repeated the title over and over for emphasis.<br />

naNAna = banana<br />
ohno or ohoh = something got dropped<br />
ower = flower<br />
ba = ball, or balloon, or book<br />
baba = grandma (this is the Russian word for grandma, so we're bilingual now)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5dZBV2RR1m9Lk1LlkIzkLggoiGJ5Q6LvHc1XwuLO09i7mHG83PYCFOdjiiS_MaFsoxM-1gdhQrrpIBR8JBMH0mYaspO5bkOJ4PZRg-Ff1tNT76bYvOCQxMsvc6vaFJZJR8HC1dFEcwb0/s1600/ball.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5dZBV2RR1m9Lk1LlkIzkLggoiGJ5Q6LvHc1XwuLO09i7mHG83PYCFOdjiiS_MaFsoxM-1gdhQrrpIBR8JBMH0mYaspO5bkOJ4PZRg-Ff1tNT76bYvOCQxMsvc6vaFJZJR8HC1dFEcwb0/s320/ball.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2) Sprout's favorite game this month has been the shoe game. He grabs a shoe, brings to me, and hands it over gravely and with great ceremony. Then he expectantly waits for praise and acknowledgment. Once his contribution has been recognized, he then goes back for another shoe. The game continues until I have a large pile of footwear in front of me, whereupon Sprout decides that Mama has had enough, and switches his attention to The Pit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzbDo2SFFfS0K4kBp4o688QH66vJ2qYh1_gwb4jM4LcLLYhixyxUMhsdzCcyQC1PghxBS7KO4Ay9bMyCo4gYAlwu_sraAZxQg3k5wAG32a8ZJVfdJMIQ8qd0wyQ0lnVoysghCuEi3BCoE/s1600/stick.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="229" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzbDo2SFFfS0K4kBp4o688QH66vJ2qYh1_gwb4jM4LcLLYhixyxUMhsdzCcyQC1PghxBS7KO4Ay9bMyCo4gYAlwu_sraAZxQg3k5wAG32a8ZJVfdJMIQ8qd0wyQ0lnVoysghCuEi3BCoE/s320/stick.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
3) Sprout continues to be super excited about dogs. He makes panting noises and points whenever he sees one - however, just like last month, that is more or less where he has his limits. He will approach within three feet of the animal, and will then stand there, grinning happily, panting. Entreaties to pet the nice doggy still do nothing - the kid does not wish to come any closer under any circumstances. The one exception was the picture below, when Sprout was unaccountably interested in sharing his snack.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI8SblNFnBPNGj_DSSKsDnzPwd9-FvD-odaQxoPHB16xeznbrS5zGKfghWM3YUnhCO3fAZjguI9EXK1ChHtlwWUJwYEQM5ruUEPwGV1Wy4fV1GsJCdWJ2vZLVGAsKFZerf0tE9_ztDZEg/s1600/dog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI8SblNFnBPNGj_DSSKsDnzPwd9-FvD-odaQxoPHB16xeznbrS5zGKfghWM3YUnhCO3fAZjguI9EXK1ChHtlwWUJwYEQM5ruUEPwGV1Wy4fV1GsJCdWJ2vZLVGAsKFZerf0tE9_ztDZEg/s320/dog.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4) This month Sprout has decided to take matters into his own hands - that is, he now takes me by the hand and leads me where he wants to go. There is much tugging and whimpering if Mama has another destination in mind.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXZgNSVz7rFKI0SPHaH4_NygsinZs0SNVOUm31Ds1vnoldasL3oeBjSxpTJe1JCLkF78_UusnGANHFT4qRGlyHq7Sz_ARcQ0xd5g5tZ6mbAWgS0Xeg3_Iea9vmFiNP-wSiJUc9s8f858k/s1600/tube.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXZgNSVz7rFKI0SPHaH4_NygsinZs0SNVOUm31Ds1vnoldasL3oeBjSxpTJe1JCLkF78_UusnGANHFT4qRGlyHq7Sz_ARcQ0xd5g5tZ6mbAWgS0Xeg3_Iea9vmFiNP-wSiJUc9s8f858k/s320/tube.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
5) Sprout also learned to shake his head for 'no' this month, and has been using this skill with great effect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_-N3s4-SWr5Vs4IZaGRqkov-T44vUviw13OLhqChqPKZdgHv6BC95BPvWXPTPaFp83vsbPAQqT-MBmsBwucF8WjzRkMY0IE9_PhUd0kKP3csZkko2s9spTPauVWIUjqOByxmkgLPBR8s/s1600/sleep.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_-N3s4-SWr5Vs4IZaGRqkov-T44vUviw13OLhqChqPKZdgHv6BC95BPvWXPTPaFp83vsbPAQqT-MBmsBwucF8WjzRkMY0IE9_PhUd0kKP3csZkko2s9spTPauVWIUjqOByxmkgLPBR8s/s320/sleep.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
6) Being an independent kind of child, he has also taken to grabbing spoons away from me at mealtime, and now feeds himself. As you can imagine, this results in less food entering the mouth, and much, much, MUCH more cleaning for Mama and Daddy. But the kid is just so damn pleased with himself, and also so stubborn that we have no choice.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj9eWgCK34s2NEuwgqSAeJXENkHzpPc4MC1fj_8mGOm5F-HtXylXdbwAmQGBf5v_OpGbiSjeEF_uSKuNzLzAqCxAwZknTPFLhtVdES15L0O5dUI9jfObePlQMkUazUUdbkzu3ZI2pbsm8/s1600/Watermelon+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj9eWgCK34s2NEuwgqSAeJXENkHzpPc4MC1fj_8mGOm5F-HtXylXdbwAmQGBf5v_OpGbiSjeEF_uSKuNzLzAqCxAwZknTPFLhtVdES15L0O5dUI9jfObePlQMkUazUUdbkzu3ZI2pbsm8/s320/Watermelon+collage.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Peachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04758650770902334842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6433014852622963938.post-57392315312198622922015-04-25T17:31:00.000-04:002015-11-28T17:44:04.846-05:0035 Months1) Fuzzy has been pretty hilarious this month when it comes to responsibility. When he wanted to hold Sprout, this was the reasoning: "Can I hold him? I a big kid!" And on another occasion: "Mama, can I have my garbage truck? I pwomise I will be vewe wesponsible wit' it!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeLXPXGcrT5nzXhoY5nbwe1oLsK946qTr6bpveyfLdJkevfgk-66wIvb7cbarkU8j6BD-Ks7IFh25rpoGTed_BKv5SKwVpo9vEBPPMcDVc4TFcjMFESDwhCuyzlGwtRK8xCYdnkmRlqv8/s1600/smile+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeLXPXGcrT5nzXhoY5nbwe1oLsK946qTr6bpveyfLdJkevfgk-66wIvb7cbarkU8j6BD-Ks7IFh25rpoGTed_BKv5SKwVpo9vEBPPMcDVc4TFcjMFESDwhCuyzlGwtRK8xCYdnkmRlqv8/s320/smile+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2) He has also been totally random. For example, we have these bath markers that draw on the bathtub wall. Usually he wants me to draw a digger, but one time this month, he demanded that I draw <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peppa_Pig">Peppa Pig</a>. "I can't," I said. "I don't really know how to draw a pig, much less Peppa." "Just twy!" So I did. I drew...something. It might have been vaguely pig-shaped. Fuzzy was not pleased. "I don't like dat face. Dat face belongs to a tiger dat lives in Afeeeka."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcJy6nvxqzVzZZtP6tlxtdWnUwaqW6_hXSTXS06KbzQlthso8EAdvfKVk74vNXQ48HFYk3o7dsRayKb14F4U23XMvCKys6bFEcpfeKyDGpnuLLLqnpWkYzubNPLoBOE5K4irwmaGONkwM/s1600/face+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcJy6nvxqzVzZZtP6tlxtdWnUwaqW6_hXSTXS06KbzQlthso8EAdvfKVk74vNXQ48HFYk3o7dsRayKb14F4U23XMvCKys6bFEcpfeKyDGpnuLLLqnpWkYzubNPLoBOE5K4irwmaGONkwM/s320/face+collage.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
3) I was eavesdropping as The Pit was reading to Fuzz. Describing something in a book, The Pit explained, "They are British. I am American. Are you American too?" Fuzzy responded in the negative, "No, I'm not." "What are you then," The Pit asked, and got back the best answer ever: "Difficult."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrpHU5m2jw9Gr8gTcE1BRwEJKwSra-lYJA-gjd5GnW8zyK99s71lznYJn64T0GQgT68de111mMh_IgY1BRv0IVGshRbzJLmZKtC3UJnXSvfGAqig8C3jQDjIp3zk95VL92BXe05xZQpqc/s1600/tongue.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="229" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrpHU5m2jw9Gr8gTcE1BRwEJKwSra-lYJA-gjd5GnW8zyK99s71lznYJn64T0GQgT68de111mMh_IgY1BRv0IVGshRbzJLmZKtC3UJnXSvfGAqig8C3jQDjIp3zk95VL92BXe05xZQpqc/s320/tongue.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4) I was in the shower one morning, sick and coughing. Fuzzy came in very concerned: "Mama, are you going to fow up? I will make you feel better!" He disappeared, and came back carrying the mug of water I had left by the bed. "Here Mama, dwink some water. Dwink all the water 'till you feel all the way better." After I assured him that the water was helping, he left again, only to come back with a tissue to wipe my nose. This was accepted with profuse thanks, although I was dubious as to its usefulness in the shower.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimCztee4AXmixR7foPKKsNeb2YMefLL_ZtTFsp9ZmyF_C6A3BVhGOtEqa1eemHTPcqvvv6aT0L7WMYRtBT1k6CMh85afsIjLJZge_RpCp5O0R9Id2FDfDudCL2trUpF30vNuBlt74NgKg/s1600/smile.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimCztee4AXmixR7foPKKsNeb2YMefLL_ZtTFsp9ZmyF_C6A3BVhGOtEqa1eemHTPcqvvv6aT0L7WMYRtBT1k6CMh85afsIjLJZge_RpCp5O0R9Id2FDfDudCL2trUpF30vNuBlt74NgKg/s320/smile.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
5) In another sickness-related incident, Fuzzy found The Pit's beard trimmer charger. Not knowing what it was, he plowed ahead anyway. "Mama, bend down so I can take you temperature!" I obliged, and he stuck the charger vaguely under my arm. I asked him what it said, and, with full confidence, Fuzzy pronounced, "46 hours ago!"<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8SSSeWKjRzf_540Mgbn3xiwrP2PWdAEsEONrSux-X0ZsFMtScJYpQbgbJUYY2oCra3Ow8xqBnWYvMl1AnukB3QACdmD1c2qCqY5g3boR1UaATNt4JDJx7-Hbxp6tDFURTEMtStWCTx3g/s1600/One+year.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8SSSeWKjRzf_540Mgbn3xiwrP2PWdAEsEONrSux-X0ZsFMtScJYpQbgbJUYY2oCra3Ow8xqBnWYvMl1AnukB3QACdmD1c2qCqY5g3boR1UaATNt4JDJx7-Hbxp6tDFURTEMtStWCTx3g/s320/One+year.JPG" width="177" /></a></div>
<br />
1) And he's said his first words this month:<br />
<br />
da=dog. He also likes to pant like a dog - he'll come up to them and stand there panting at them, confusing owners and animals alike. Does he want to pet the dog? Oh no, he just wants to stand there and pant at it.<br />
brrr sound with his lips = car<br />
haaaa, accompanied by much hand waving = hot<br />
dadum = daddy (possibly other stuff too, I can't really tell)<br />
mama = me! For a while he's been yelling maaaamaaaaa when he cried at night, but not actually using it in any way during the day. Then finally, about a week before his birthday, he said it for the first time in the correct context, without crying. Made Mama very happy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOFReiqZhLrWbHthqBhvNq9LMY7Tvk4PhC1jz1cZiB9Lhm35055aQnW5nE5hoLRYZohsTdjrth-8Uf81_vNg6tzm9_ghpu6fCFrr11ZkuNqtKS8WazWRLAYhDUBwl6mPw9Q-fflg_F7O0/s1600/kiss.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOFReiqZhLrWbHthqBhvNq9LMY7Tvk4PhC1jz1cZiB9Lhm35055aQnW5nE5hoLRYZohsTdjrth-8Uf81_vNg6tzm9_ghpu6fCFrr11ZkuNqtKS8WazWRLAYhDUBwl6mPw9Q-fflg_F7O0/s320/kiss.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2) Sprout has also mastered clapping. Well, 'mastered' might be a tad strong. But he claps! Mostly when others are clapping, but sometimes when he's dancing, and always with a big smile on his little face.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDjsNVq2P8C2PhAZxpLuiLH4uEzQTCYR24aYJ3mcAVuhQ8I_SkNMvauHuf8adQVEYFO1bNfjtQoSvJ_S1D7MemmTmPxeDfWHKl1c2yOkoi451-TglZQov8y8Mm4L9rh9IA87hNxecSZjg/s1600/running.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDjsNVq2P8C2PhAZxpLuiLH4uEzQTCYR24aYJ3mcAVuhQ8I_SkNMvauHuf8adQVEYFO1bNfjtQoSvJ_S1D7MemmTmPxeDfWHKl1c2yOkoi451-TglZQov8y8Mm4L9rh9IA87hNxecSZjg/s320/running.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
3) In addition to the clapping, there's been a lot of other copying of adult (and Fuzzy) behaviors. For example, as I'm getting ready for work, Sprout will find my hairbrush and attempt to use it - this usually results in him banging himself with the flat part - but very occasionally he manages to catch some hair, and is always very proud of himself when this happens. Like the little mermaid, I've also seen him use other vaguely hairbrush-shaped objects to comb his hair - the standouts have been a toy saw and a large fork.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg_9VJB6EassnPAcU_tGps5HDnsK_GrGKbWb2nuGE3qk2B6ZETCkxr6QO9xbtMSvAW6_7X794MB6y9HeOBhtNaYAQ7oJTUtZ46RA1UFn0Iqdo15mgqq5e11MgglwFme4AqjYV5NLtws0s/s1600/mad.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg_9VJB6EassnPAcU_tGps5HDnsK_GrGKbWb2nuGE3qk2B6ZETCkxr6QO9xbtMSvAW6_7X794MB6y9HeOBhtNaYAQ7oJTUtZ46RA1UFn0Iqdo15mgqq5e11MgglwFme4AqjYV5NLtws0s/s320/mad.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4) I don't know why, but this month Sprout has been the pinchiest of little pinchers. He gleefully squishes skin between his little fingers, and laughs and laughs as you try to swat him away. Despite filing his nails at every available opportunity, he somehow manages to have razor sharp claws at all times, so his playful pinching is actually quite painful.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFhpCvkRgOt9qEch4PeDZugdJsdrH1WzztMO1yv8WVnZzjKI1Py7EgoOm8-0d5zAOHtDcYnSZc2acAam9dZJU8XXn4UP5YGJ_fTtlGk9s1G_KLTBEPm8RhLcsHYXTBR201CBxL4BSLo5Q/s1600/face.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFhpCvkRgOt9qEch4PeDZugdJsdrH1WzztMO1yv8WVnZzjKI1Py7EgoOm8-0d5zAOHtDcYnSZc2acAam9dZJU8XXn4UP5YGJ_fTtlGk9s1G_KLTBEPm8RhLcsHYXTBR201CBxL4BSLo5Q/s320/face.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<br />
5) In his final act of development progress before he turned one, Sprout began to actually point with intention. Between that and his milk/I want sign, communication between family members has never been better.<br />

He kept right on demanding these berries even after the medicine was done, so I tried linking them to other useful behavior. The results were...less than exemplary:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCDekq6KRnna7a457y8nkurMc-hVWic1zp63CuVSoIN70-5cVktqVuH0pRKnpAhpz_-cZk4xG5LGpbLrgJrXKotfJ0RJp7P6ljdZMpxZtJQvABvq7TnY2qbaO3NiCpW7j7r_xgPboko00/s1600/with+bat.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCDekq6KRnna7a457y8nkurMc-hVWic1zp63CuVSoIN70-5cVktqVuH0pRKnpAhpz_-cZk4xG5LGpbLrgJrXKotfJ0RJp7P6ljdZMpxZtJQvABvq7TnY2qbaO3NiCpW7j7r_xgPboko00/s320/with+bat.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
"Can I have my chocolate berries?"<br />
"Well, did you do something nice today? Good boys get chocolate berries."<br />
"Ummm...I pushed Sprout!"<br />
"That isn't a nice thing! Poor Sprout, we don't want to push him! Can you tell me about something *nice* that you did?"<br />
"Ummm...I bit Sprout's finger. Now can I have chocolate berries?"<br />
"That's not a nice thing at all! We don't bite people, that's very naughty! Naughty boys don't get chocolate berries. Did you do something nice today? Did you help anybody?"<br />
"I pushed Andrew!"*<br />
*Andrew is one of his best buddies at preschool, which he hadn't been to the day in question.<br />
"That is not nice, not helpful, and also not today."<br />
"Ummm...I massaged children. Dat a nice thing!"<br />
I was a little taken aback and confused by this reference, but relieved that it didn't have to do with pushing or biting. However, I wanted more. "Did you do anything else nice today?"<br />
"We done."<br />
"What do you mean, 'we done'?"<br />
"We done talkin' 'bout dis now. Can I have my chocolate berries?"<br />
<br />

<br />
2) Fuzzy is still obsessed with the Jack and the Beanstalk story, and has been requesting it almost every night for more than a month. Consequently, I have several amusing anecdotes regarding our nightly telling. Now that he's established the plot more firmly in his mind, he's asking slightly deeper questions, and requesting different versions of the story. Thusly on two different nights, we had the following exchanges:<br />
<br />
Me: Jack grabbed the goose and started to climb down the beanstalk. Just then, the giant came out and started climbing after Jack..."<br />
Night #1 Fuzzy: "Dat giant not nice to chase childrens! Why da giant climb after Jack? He can go to da store an get another goose! Da aminal store!"<br />
Night #2 Fuzzy: "No Mama, da giant not climb after Jack!" <br />
Me: "...Okay...just then, the giant looked out his window and saw Jack taking the goose. He said 'Fe fi foe fum...I don't feel like going outside today.'"<br />
Fuzzy: Smiles and murmurs approval..."Mmmm hmmmm."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9miS4F-guxX8pRadDiJr5dOr3pc9FkF9-DYAiGkJgUkttXL1nMU3QYJmMWzlbn9VWFGU4oB9y9BFaf6Q4ODE0JcUh64XQwiKT_OxVSPOpjXTfbq4UtRsXPznhtkrup7-P_eZuW0RiEU0/s1600/with+water.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9miS4F-guxX8pRadDiJr5dOr3pc9FkF9-DYAiGkJgUkttXL1nMU3QYJmMWzlbn9VWFGU4oB9y9BFaf6Q4ODE0JcUh64XQwiKT_OxVSPOpjXTfbq4UtRsXPznhtkrup7-P_eZuW0RiEU0/s320/with+water.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
3) Fuzzy also enjoys when he is introduced into the story, and Fuzz and Jack successfully bring back the goose together. When I get to the end of this telling, he always smiles beatifically as I say that Jack's mama hugged and thanked the boys. "We did a good job!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAlTGyqTIEaD2nmg4xr2WlmqCKFmXJ7RdpXEzLlLICiFjqUGF7nN37gEjjb3CzcuHqr6QMG510b6wLlmC7MslrxQzK_lVbpmt3uiTHEuvCoHGjEZudMP9jRi57DLoMUk_LgrhxUvpbxQI/s1600/stairs.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAlTGyqTIEaD2nmg4xr2WlmqCKFmXJ7RdpXEzLlLICiFjqUGF7nN37gEjjb3CzcuHqr6QMG510b6wLlmC7MslrxQzK_lVbpmt3uiTHEuvCoHGjEZudMP9jRi57DLoMUk_LgrhxUvpbxQI/s320/stairs.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4) Since I tell the story the same way every time, we've gotten into a routine where he finishes my sentences. For example, I always say, "The beanstalk grew taller and taller, taller than a house, taller than a tree, taller than a mountain!" And for a long time, Fuzzy was quite satisfied to say "house," "tree," and "mountain" at the appropriate spots. If I forgot to pause and said the ending word, he would get quite upset. "I taut I was gonna say dat! Say it again!" <br />
<br />
One night, instead of saying "house," he substituted "mushroom" (or mufwoom, in his pronunciation). I laughed, and Fuzzy took this as his cue to repeat the joke...over and over and over. Every sentence ended with muffwoom, all the way down to the goose laying a golden muffwoom. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsdYdbaZWzW0tiVof06134ZjIntiWoACq4VKZ1qiDpTxaJfwWbNXjGcUVFYrmKtN240i1iulPbHc7ujPJ0eyamQ2Pk1bfx6scJo3uWd20Xx73mF5TUFbFUJT1mSsri5F-Twl73IAVx0Qo/s1600/smile.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsdYdbaZWzW0tiVof06134ZjIntiWoACq4VKZ1qiDpTxaJfwWbNXjGcUVFYrmKtN240i1iulPbHc7ujPJ0eyamQ2Pk1bfx6scJo3uWd20Xx73mF5TUFbFUJT1mSsri5F-Twl73IAVx0Qo/s320/smile.JPG" width="228" /></a></div>
<br />
5) As you might be noticing, Fuzzy is very into his routines. Bedtime at our house goes like this - Mama gives him a bath, brings him downstairs, and he and Daddy read stories on the couch. Then Mama is summoned back to take him and put him to bed. Every night, The Pit asks Fuzzy if he can put him to bed instead, and every night, Fuzzy very emphatically says, "NO!" When questioned why, he states, "Dat Mama's job!" One night, The Pit decided to get more clarity, and asked what his own job was...Fuzz replied, "Youse job is taking me to pweeschool." *<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1rprwU7bmWuu6vEDkygASp7ynBCBvRh0lAmFecf9rOO3xPGGT4vMxGlRDi5mx9VBOubVCwdExG6qKppj03_ANjus0iiWzSTWSTZIcPo1ap6BtfxZbOHX3sh4v2F3EvgOmcCJooo5fJYY/s1600/Reading.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1rprwU7bmWuu6vEDkygASp7ynBCBvRh0lAmFecf9rOO3xPGGT4vMxGlRDi5mx9VBOubVCwdExG6qKppj03_ANjus0iiWzSTWSTZIcPo1ap6BtfxZbOHX3sh4v2F3EvgOmcCJooo5fJYY/s320/Reading.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
*Please note that Mama takes him to preschool 99% of the time.<br />
<br />
6) I was giving Fuzz and Sprout a bath at the same time, and Fuzzy was standing, such that his junk was directly in front of Sprout's face. Sprout of course immediately focused on this new and interesting bit of anatomy, and grabbed at Fuzzy, pulling on his penis quite hard. Fuzzy yelped in surprise, and I removed Sprout to the far end of the tub, where he commenced wailing about being denied this new toy. Fuzz, in an uncharacteristic bit of generosity, looked at his baby brother and said, "It's okay Sprout, you can play with my penis!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
7) A more common interaction between the boys took place on the playground: Sprout crammed his mouth full of sand, so I took him away from sandbox, where Fuzzy was happily occupied with some trucks. Fuzzy was not pleased by my absence, and ran right over to me. "Mama, come play wit me!" I explained that I couldn't, as Sprout was not to be trusted over there, and would eat more sand. Fuzzy was undeterred. He gestured vaguely at the far corner of the playground, a good distance away - "No Mama, come play wit me...you can put Sprout down over der!" <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
8) From the backseat of the car, The Pit and I also overheard this exchange:<br />
<br />
Sprout: "Dada."<br />
Fuzzy, apparently deciding to be pedantic: "The Pit."<br />
Sprout: "Dada."<br />
Fuzzy: "The Pit!"<br />
Sprout: "Dada."<br />
Fuzzy: "THE PIIIIIIITTTT!"<br />
<br />
9) The Pit and I, in a fit of sleepless delirium, where having an argument in the kitchen about who exactly had it worse the previous night. Fuzzy did not like our raised voices, and immediately ran over to us from the living room. "Stop doin' dat!!" <br />
1) Sprout got his second tooth at the beginning of the month, but has made no further progress. This is a shame, since the kid wants to eat people food more than pretty much anything else in the world. He's taken to loudly smacking his lips together when he's hungry - which is all the time, the child has an insatiable appetite.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNyawuQDWvB0qgZ8o-Ilk_KtvKgiMlDuddOcmj_sziN9t9iEJu74a73A1u11yurUNc4cyGCFWB1qI98UYaRzYXiyPm7hl8103KyZNXVetX87KxEidL2EmqfDwZ8ki0mBrms3GlGbsb7Vg/s1600/cheerios.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="229" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNyawuQDWvB0qgZ8o-Ilk_KtvKgiMlDuddOcmj_sziN9t9iEJu74a73A1u11yurUNc4cyGCFWB1qI98UYaRzYXiyPm7hl8103KyZNXVetX87KxEidL2EmqfDwZ8ki0mBrms3GlGbsb7Vg/s320/cheerios.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2) I've sporadically been trying to teach Sprout a few signs - 'more,' 'milk,' 'water' - and for a while I was optimistic that the kid was a genius and picking up on the milk sign. Then I realized that Sprout has determined that this sign means "I want." Thus, he makes it whenever he wants anything, be it milk, food, a toy, or to be picked up. This is less than useful in the communication department, as his previous sign for wanting something - whimpering - was perfectly sufficient in its vagueness.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM93fUoe79X_ARJhERL9TRMhWtodG8g4dDrvanZxjNkFx9vPUTGil9cRB2KA5dR4x851vUA8I8-yyiB8aHDCpGSr60bAGrjpL3v0jGd64OdTVlQUDmGXqJHGViCo7hWtxaP2Fuotgoo4c/s1600/snowsuit+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM93fUoe79X_ARJhERL9TRMhWtodG8g4dDrvanZxjNkFx9vPUTGil9cRB2KA5dR4x851vUA8I8-yyiB8aHDCpGSr60bAGrjpL3v0jGd64OdTVlQUDmGXqJHGViCo7hWtxaP2Fuotgoo4c/s320/snowsuit+1.JPG" width="228" /></a></div>
<br />
3) This month the baby learned to push himself to a standing position without leaning on something. He now grabs a toy, stands up, and then toddles around self-importantly. The toys he loves best are all balls, and he will grab them, clutch them tightly while properly positioning himself, and then throw then down the stairs or across the room with great joy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
4) In other mobility progress, this baby is a climber. He loves to climb up on his little chair, and will stand there banging as high up on the wall as he can reach. I've also witnessed him climbing up the side of his stroller to get a few cheerios I left in the kid's cup holder compartment.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi08zV4lYS1hurGaGpwBzXGDckPciHZhrMnjUqKql7NvZurS8ztyp1sBP_vZAYQKwUa68QP0I0JqesjTtvNSVo55iyon4rkiosi9dlX65PhJlS8a6QE-sTG61lrcq5e86pMgAQZfxwstT8/s1600/swing.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi08zV4lYS1hurGaGpwBzXGDckPciHZhrMnjUqKql7NvZurS8ztyp1sBP_vZAYQKwUa68QP0I0JqesjTtvNSVo55iyon4rkiosi9dlX65PhJlS8a6QE-sTG61lrcq5e86pMgAQZfxwstT8/s320/swing.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
5) Sprout is so good-natured, that even when he's feeling miserable, he manages to find a way to smile. Case in point, he caught the latest cold Fuzzy brought home from preschool, and started running a fever. Despite this, when he heard some music playing, he began bouncing up and down and waving his little fists around, dancing and grinning at us happily. Of course, he did this when he was supposed to be settling down to sleep at night, but it was too cute to be grumpy about bedtime.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
6) Sprout is still mostly pointing vaguely upward, but now jabs with more emphasis, and sometimes directs his finger ever so slightly horizontal, enabling us to better guess his meaning.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnzZuKrUI3t8Ttko0tRPz0Uq0pUYvhiFZyvfOTlqe2pRMrgcFs8JqlkwK7HsbYto2QdWDPDChVPKIStTigyeNFzV5YYBmIBeElX95W0IItgTWypFwTSQvoeFY2wCTaE3Y93cbpouPm1Sg/s1600/reading.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnzZuKrUI3t8Ttko0tRPz0Uq0pUYvhiFZyvfOTlqe2pRMrgcFs8JqlkwK7HsbYto2QdWDPDChVPKIStTigyeNFzV5YYBmIBeElX95W0IItgTWypFwTSQvoeFY2wCTaE3Y93cbpouPm1Sg/s320/reading.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
7) The baby has started sharing his food, carefully taking masticated bits out of his mouth and putting them in ours, then grinning broadly at his own cleverness.<br />

8) Sprout used to try to eat tissues on the floor - now he picks them up and wipes the floor with them carefully. He is also interested in the broom, and will happily drag it about while 'cleaning.'<br />

I left him in the living room throwing a little tantrum. A few minutes later, he came into the kitchen and said, "Mama, I feel betta' now. I will let you go to the dentist."<br />

2) Ever since our visit to California over the holidays, Fuzzy hadn't sleep all the way through the night - he either crawled into bed with The Pitt, or made Daddy sleep in his room on a mattress on the floor. Finally, I decided enough was enough, and we had a serious conversation/bribing session. I began by telling him that he's was a big boy, and that big boys sleep by themselves. Fuzzy presented a counterargument: "But Daddy *likes* to sweep on the mattress!" <br />
<br />
At this point I decided to capitalize on his new interest in fairy tales, and presented him with a book I'd purchased for the occasion. I showed him that it had *so* many new stories, and and then informed him that unfortunately, these stories were only for big boys who slept in their own rooms without Daddy. Further discussions on this topic led to him actually leaving us alone at night.*<br />
<br />
*Sort of related and funny - after I told him that the new book had stories and fairy tales, he kept asking me where the tails were in each story. Explanations of homonyms did not help.<br />
<br />

<br />
3) On the morning of my birthday, Fuzzy started throwing up at 3 AM. Daddy took care of him until about 7 AM, when he proceeded to crawl into bed with me. I left him watching cartoons on the iPad while I showered, only to hear the unmistakable sounds of puking as I turned off the water. After I stripped the bed, pulled off Fuzzy's pajamas, and put him in the shower to wash off, he finally stopped crying, and instead started apologizing: "I sowee I few up on your bed Mama." <br />
<br />
I reassured him that it wasn't his fault, and after a few minutes, he started to smile. "Happy Birthday MAMA!" he said, as I finished washing the puke from his hair. While it wasn't precisely the scenario I had anticipated to start the day, The Pit salvaged it with an amazing Pavlova cake, which we fed to our puking child. I mean, if you're going to throw up anyway, you might as well throw up cake.<br />

<br />
4) After Fuzz spent one afternoon constantly smacking Sprout, I set him aside and to try and explain why this was a bad idea. "You need to be nice to your brother, show him how to do things, show him how to play. Not hit him. If you are nice to him and show him how to do things, he'll grow up and be able to play with you." Fuzzy gave this some thought, and then brightened up, "...and THEN I can hit him!"<br />
<br />
As evidenced from the picture below though, he is sometimes nice to his brother:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHN9MdDts8DXie36rGOOUOd8AHe7UHV7e0aqhzclUTj9ozspDlixILdNt5ooGTyGNz5TI_uDpbdSUMj78yGAASkWx-QeP6fllFMCQ8zzmkXeoC5vxNLF5ZUNxTM47EPzmahyUvo1A-Puk/s1600/sammy+hug.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHN9MdDts8DXie36rGOOUOd8AHe7UHV7e0aqhzclUTj9ozspDlixILdNt5ooGTyGNz5TI_uDpbdSUMj78yGAASkWx-QeP6fllFMCQ8zzmkXeoC5vxNLF5ZUNxTM47EPzmahyUvo1A-Puk/s1600/sammy+hug.JPG" height="228" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
5) Then again, a few days ago, I found myself saying something I never thought I'd have to say: "Stop wiping your nose on your brother's hair!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzX2j_c0szdwfPpvSiH8RP8xbLOz9yrsqUT1tW8voKZZtZIyvbb23bxRVjBDY_1B31xeWLtBQonyyK6wxALCFGsOiIuCvaG3YyxbzoGV9oKZbU0GBCMUNqiPjA-9bXkFb7r3NZM0xby44/s1600/bridge.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzX2j_c0szdwfPpvSiH8RP8xbLOz9yrsqUT1tW8voKZZtZIyvbb23bxRVjBDY_1B31xeWLtBQonyyK6wxALCFGsOiIuCvaG3YyxbzoGV9oKZbU0GBCMUNqiPjA-9bXkFb7r3NZM0xby44/s1600/bridge.JPG" height="228" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
6) I guess it's a right of passage of some type for toddlers - Fuzzy has started adorably mispronouncing the word 'animal.' For example, once he gathers all his stuffed toys, he turns to me and announces: "All my aminals are on da bed!"<br />
